Strauss and his stupid ideas....

He’s spoken on this during the rain break. Constantly talking about the ‘best playing the best more often’.

Makes me very nervous that some of the ‘lesser’ counties will be cut.
According to the Mail, 20 of our next 43 Tests will be against Australia or India

Here's a challenge for everyone. Try reading about this new idea from Strauss without losing your shit. I failed. Seriously wtf is this?

Regionalisation of county cricket is the way forward IMO. In red ball, six teams per division, play each other twice, top two of each division go through to a quarter final with the two best third teams also going through. Play the limited overs stuff at the end of the four days as used to be the way. Six days set aside for each county meeting.

That’s a minimum of ten games per county in red ball, three show piece finals for each competition and there’d be potential space for three weeks for the Hundred in amongst that schedule as well (and there’s no reason some Hundred fixtures can’t go to different venues - Superchargers could easily come to Durham for example).

Whatever happens, there needs to be a consistent schedule established very soon where there isn’t chopping and changing every year.

Strauss was "head boy" when he got the job, loved for ages and the public demanded him back and now he's back to being hated again

In fairness with the remit to improve our odi team we won the world cup and ftecb decided that was the ideal time to shit on Odis. Then with is poor in the long format they shit on the cc. There's just zero joined up thinking

I don't really understand. They're going to cut the number of County Championship games but then introduce another competition to make up for the reduced number of games????

And I fail to see how having exhibition games will help anything.

I'm all for it! Let's call it the 4Hundred...100 overs per day for four days. Maidens (now called zeroes) get the fielding team (ballers) 10 bonus goalruns and everytime thers a hatrick everyone wins a cap emblazoned with the fast food snack sponsoring the match ball. Who's with me??

Exactly. Change for the sake of changing. That's the trouble when you're paid to come up with ideas. You have to come up with ideas and most of them tend to be ridiculous.

Keep the interest going during the lunch break with exciting competitions such as who can complete a circuit of the ground without their 99 melting, who can scale the heights of the Co Durham Upper in the quickest time, Spot The Director of Cricket At The Ground Competition and Best Random Photo Of A Back Garden Looking Like A Cricket Ground🤔

Genuinely snorted with laughter 😂😂😂😂

f***ing brilliant. My work shuts down for a fortnight every August which used to give me the chance to go and watch an Ashes Test. Now I can’t even do that.

Fuck Sky and FTECB.

IMO they will do it by subsidising increased matches/tours for England B and under age teams in place of the county championship.

Is the County Championship a higher standard than up and coming players will face on international tours against other countries?

The counties will evolve to play white ball cricket only. Those showing potential will be elevated to England white ball cricket and from there a decision will be made to either send them on tour for 5 day cricket with the B or under whatever age team or keep them in white ball.

The county championship in 4/5 day format simply isn’t sustainable without ECB funding and if the ECB think they can provide better test cricketers in the future by sending them out to tour India, Australia, West Indies at a young age instead of English only seamer conditions they will do it. I think the ECB will eventually come to the conclusion that the future of England test cricket is better served with this model than a county cricket competition that rarely involves the top class players who are centrally contracted. In many ways I would agree with them looking only through the eyes of England cricket.

Counties will never get local support for the 4/5 day game but they will for the razzmatazz of the slogfests.

Just my opinion of course.
Some fair points but the question is.... with no first class cricket, no 4 day games and no county championship where and how do these young players actually show their potential to get selected for the India B tours, .... not on a Saturday afternoon playing in the NEPL I doubt.

Hope the Lancs petition is succesful, I like Andrew Strauss as a person and for his foundation work but Im a million miles away from him on his ideas for the changes .... sorry , death of county cricket.
