Current Cricketer Magazine confirming our improving finances
"Durham's pre-tax profit for y.e. Sept.2021 jumped from £344,000 to £1.055m as they bounced back from Covid19. The club's turnover also rose significantly from £4.64m to £7.10m. Plans for a 130 bed hotel and a pavilion refurbishment are in the pipeline".

North at the latest forum stated that Durham were at 60% of the salary cap. It would confirm that our salary restrictions are self-imposed or players simply aren't attracted to Durham.

I assume smarter people then I have thought of this but.... Is it really such a great place for a 130 room hotel, given there will be no test matches anymore? ( Although 1 test every few years against the least exciting test sides probably wouldn't make a huge difference anyhow)

I assume,hope, that the finance people have done their marketing to be confident that there'd be sufficient demand. It is conveniently situated just off the motorway. Wouldn't survive solely on cricket custom.

I'm assuming the salary level is part of their strategy ... to build up reserves, ensure future survival, can cope with the unexpected. And that's not a bad approach, but can they also put together a good squad that satisfies Durham fans?
After the difficulties of this season, they have some interesting decisions to make before the next one.

It's been a dismal season results wise but I don't think we were miles off being competitive. You swap Madison for a strike bowler and I think we'd look a much better side.

Next year we'll have about five first team players with an extra season of experience.. you can't have that many players in their first season all playing at once it's ridiculous

We'd have a competitive X1 if no one was injured but we've seen how dodgy a strategy that is this season.
If Potts and Lees are permanent England players we get very generous compensation. It was as much as £100k each. That should be used for a couple of seasoned players so youngsters can be used sparingly.

You'd think Potts is as nailed in as it gets for a central contract, lees likely anarl so that's alot of extra cash in play aye. As well as Salisbury and eckersley.... It's who is available to replace them and if we can bring them in.
 
We are desperate for decent hotel space in and around the CLS area. The Holiday Inn, Premier Inn and Campernile (sp?) are rubbish. The hotel at the Church Mouse is tiny.

At the pre season members event Bostock made the same point. The hotel project is being backed by Durham Council (as Durham generally is v short of hotel beds-and they are trying to promote tourism) and FTECB are partially financing this.

The club is also planning to run residential cricket schools so the accommodation would come in handy.
 
No excuse not to be paying out for a better standard of player in my opinion (within the cap of course) when you’re literally making profits in the millions.

Yes. I have family who travel and have nowhere to stay that’s decent. I have people coming up on business who have nowhere decent to stay in the town. There is a known shortage of hotel space in and around CLS which will bring much needed revenue into the town…… So if the local council and DCC can turn a patch of gravel into a good quality hotel that brings value to the area then what idiot wouldn’t be for this development?!?
