Sunderland impressed me last night.

First off what a fantastic game that was last night. I watched it with my partner's 11 year old and he was glued!

Sheffield United away is going to be one of the hardest fixtures of the season, they are strong experienced and have some real quality for the championship, and yet even with ten men you gave them a game.

The sending off, as much as I understood it was rather harsh in my opinion. Dan Neill made two fantastic tackles just prior to that which incorrectly got pull up, I don't think that did him any favours

You have some cracking players, Stewart, Neil Clarke, O,nein ( that tackle he made was brutal by the way) and Patterson in goal will only get better. Baath and Bailey at the back are solid. I saw Pritchard being upset when taken off but I thought it was justified, it wasn't his night.

As much as you will be disappointed with the result, you have a team there and a manager that will have you challenging for the playoffs, with one or two experienced signings I think it's going be a fruitful time for Sunderland.

Agree it was an entertaining game.

The thing that impressed me was the managers approach to the game.
Most managers going up to a new league would take the safety first caution approach, try to frustrate Sheff Utd then hope for a break away attack
but no....the Sunderland tactics were to be positive and try to win playing positive attacking football. In the first 20 minutes Sunderland were the better side.

Even when you went down to 10 men....many managers go into damage limitation mode and try to keep the score down
but yet again the manager tactics was to be positive and try to get a result even in adversity.

This bodes well for the future and demonstrates you have the right manager.
You might lose matches but at least you know you're going to be entertained.

Indeed.

The complete polar opposite of our manager the other night when we had a man sent off.

We basically gave up and tried to see out a draw.

I was expecting one of Simms or Stewart to come off pretty much straight away.

Another very impressive managerial performance from Neil I thought. We still managed to cause you a few problems with 10, and he seemed to make the substitutions at the right time.

I was more pissed off after the QPR game than I am today

Haway the f***ing lads.

I think we're more likely to be mid table/lower mid table as theres a lot of inexperience in the squad which has shown in a couple of games so far but with time to add experience and quality who knows. I enjoyed our approach last night and I'm convinced Sheff Utd don't win that game if it stayed 11v11, they'd offered nothing up to that point.

We know this season will be tough, and there’ll be some frustrating moments like last night and QPR keeper turning into prime Ronaldo with a leap off the ground for a header.

Lower mid-table this year and kick on for a play off push next year is the hope.

Good to see an outsider's honest opinion. I think the passion can sometimes make is Sunderland fans see things in a different way hence the massive differences in opinion about certain players on here.
 
I think Neil is a perfect fit as manager for our football club. I like how he goes for it in games rather than worry about the opposition. Hopefully the club back him and bring in the 4/5 players he feels we need to have a successful season.
