The Hundred 2022 Match Thread

Agree with you, the moment and game will never be forgotten. It has had no positive impact on English cricket however, and the man who captained that side is a huge driving force in now devaluing the 50 over game.

Following the 2005 Ashes series, England games moved away from free to air TV and therefore a generation of potential new fans were left behind after a series which attracted waves of new interest in the test team.

Following the World Cup win, we devalued the 50 over game at it's highest interest rate in England. The ECB are to blame for both events but by god Morgan is a crass mouthpiece for moving the game away from it's traditional and popular roots at an alarmingly quick rate.

The cynic in me can't help thinking that he's a bit of a self-preservationist, and wants to be remembered as the only England captain to win the 50 over World Cup. Add in that he was/is a mediocre first-class cricketer with a diluted interest in that form of the game but the reality is that he's always chased the dollar and is happy to promote others following his lead.

He likes power and a platform and is using it to the detriment of the first class game.
Well yeah, I was just making the point that a World Cup win is for a England team and England players and fans, not just one man and what he goes on to do should never tarnish that. At least imo.

I do think 50 over cricket in general worldwide seems to have been devalued not sure that’s solely in England or solely down to the ECB.
loads have fucked off home :lol:
Think that’s inevitable to be honest.

I imagine the same would happen if Sunderland ladies followed a Sunderland mens game

Just flicked over and the boundary looks shortened even for woman’s game.

Woman’s cricket is a long way away yet hope they can make it but seems a while yet.

Saw the last few balls of this game. Nasser got excited when Curran took a bog standard single. That drop at the end looked a bit suspect. They don't have Man of the Match they have a match HERO!. As well as a medal you get a cap that says Match Hero. At the beginning of T20 counties were giving free caps to the crowd.

It also looked like most spectators decided to head home rather than stay for the women's game.
Nasser is going right down in my estimation. He was embarrassing on commentary again.

Derek Pringle gets it...

Good article that. I've said it a few times this year regarding Durham, it will be a tough sell for 2023 memberships. Poor form, poor pitches, and a potential reduction in red ball games.... Hardly screams "buy me" hence why I keep saying the club need members on side and the best way to do that is by communication.
