That's exactly what my point was. The regulars in that squad were almost exclusively academy products yet were good enough to comfortably win the championship with a wage bill well within the salary cap. For me the big indicator to being caught out by a lack of spending is the number of players in the squad. I make it as being around 15 this year excluding the emergency addition as opposed to 23 or so in 2013. Exactly right..and even the handful of useful players that may have helped have had a series of injuries and falling out with Franklin and that's why we've had so many (especially bowlers) thrust into positions where we've relied far too heavily on incredibly inexperienced lads
'bunch of academy lads' (we're also operating at 60% the wage bill this year so yes, they're a reason)
