Durham v Middlesex 7/8/22

Just listened I don't think he mentions Franklin does he? Fair enough interview. Jones and Lees now away now.

I don’t know if you saw Killeen’s interview after the South North game - he said Jones going away with Scotland was news to him! He seemed a bit narked when Marty mentioned this.

I’d be astonished if he wasn’t picked, but we shall no doubt see soon enough. And fair play to the lad.

A subtle irony of someone not communicating with the club

How the fuck is it news to him? He's been publicly announced in the squad.. it was surprising to us lot when he played for Durham and nobody knew if he'd be replaced half way through the game or not!

Anybody going on Friday? Going with a couple of pals, trying to get them to attend more games…. hard task ahead of me I 🤔!!

I wouldn't expect the club captain to comment at all on the coach, be it positive or negative, which is why I was surprised by the claim that Borthwick has. It doesn't, however, alter one iota the abmysal performances during Franklin's time and the regression in player's development. Those who claim lack of finance is the factor appear to ignore the fact that we won the 2013 championship with a squad of academy graduates under Colly's guidance.

And the one day cup in 2014 with much the same.

Where has Borthwick commented on Franklin? Spot on with what you say.

I'd be absolutely amazed if they got on

Sorry but are you mad? The 2013 squad was f***ing light years ahead of this team. Potts is maybe the only player who'd get into it (unless you can have two rushworths)

Well, I have questioned my sanity watching this lot recently but what exactly is mad about my post?

Have a scroll down that list and tell me how many of them you'd take to improve this season's squad like

I'll give you a hint, it's around about all of them

That's exactly what my point was. The regulars in that squad were almost exclusively academy products yet were good enough to comfortably win the championship with a wage bill well within the salary cap. So wage restraints aren't a reason for underperformance.

For me the big indicator to being caught out by a lack of spending is the number of players in the squad. I make it as being around 15 this year excluding the emergency addition as opposed to 23 or so in 2013. FGS in 2013 the squad contained 3 spinners with spin as their main suit, this year's squad only has Trevaskis.

The 2014 squad had 2 wicketkeepers without dipping into the academy!

The 2020 squad had 20 players.

AI stand by what I said previously, this year's squad has been light on numbers and to me that whiffs of trying to economise, and they've been caught out.

Recruitment has been absolutely shite under these 2. Going to be difficult going forward to attract players to the club.

Exactly right..and even the handful of useful players that may have helped have had a series of injuries and falling out with Franklin and that's why we've had so many (especially bowlers) thrust into positions where we've relied far too heavily on incredibly inexperienced lads

'bunch of academy lads' (we're also operating at 60% the wage bill this year so yes, they're a reason)

2013 and 2015 .... God knows where those other years appeared from!

This gives a better picture of the squad who actually contributed to that championship win. Harmi didn't appear, Benks less than a third of the games.
The core squad was
Stoneman
Jennings
Smith
Stokes
Richardson
Colly
Borthwick
Mustard
Onions
Rushworth
Wood/Thorp.
Apart from Smith,/Thorp all Academy products.
