The Hundred 2022 Match Thread

I’m looking at the crowd and it’s identical to a t20 crowd to me. Age ranges, male and female , etc etc

Yeah what’s happened is that we now have two competitions played by the same or roughy the same players meaning we now have to two squeezed into a already tight schedule.

One short format competition with the best players available is what is needed.

Yup and in my opinion both are bang average with one of them costing an absolute fortune and in my view putting the English game in danger if it goes tits up which at the moment I'm not entirely convinced it's the success they were hoping for. You've got the 2 star players withdrawing and the England red ball captain minutes before the start, tweeting his support for county cricket  talk about perfect timing (or bad timing if you're the ECB) to have your star player tweeting about "the other format".

It's all just a mess in my opinion and I just don't get it/the reasoning behind it/the need for it.

I want it all to work but I just can't get behind this as it's just wrong.

3 of us will be at South North tomorrow, one of those is the wife's nephew aged 14 and he's very excited for tomorrow as he loved the 50 over competition last year and is equally as excited when we told him we're taking him down to Grantham to watch Durham. How much longer the 3 of us have the opportunity to attend One Day Cup cricket is anyone's guess, the father in law will be joining us for the next 2 home games also. We've had opportunities for free to attend 100 games, it just doesn't appeal to any of us at all.

I think Welsh fire are more like Welsh mouldy old ashes and will finish bottom of the table

and iirc their crowds were very mediocre last season

The problem there mate whether you like or not is that situation you have explained of families going to games has been declining for years and the average age of people watching cricket was going up year after year.

So the reasoning behind it is obvious to get more people interested in the game at a younger age. ( that’s why it’s on in the school holidays)

Whether they have went the right way about it by excluding large parts of the country is another debate mind!

The Blast is played with teams you can identify with and in most cases at a ground near to cricket fans. It is also played by proper cricket rules.

This feels like It's a Knockout.

In 5 years time people will identify with these teams, whether people like it or not. Same happened with the IPL and BBL.

I’m convinced if they had not bothered with this, but just upgrading the t20 with England top players being allowed, the new and existing audience would have been well happy and been inspired to play.

i think that’s all it would have took.

they could do that with the T20 blast and have 1 top class limited overs competition. instead they have an average mash up of 2 and they're making other competitions struggle.

had they rebranded the T20 blast and changed it to the summer holidays, you would see everyone getting behind it. all they have done here is create 2 half arsed average competitions and divide cricket fans all around the country, and worst of all it's costing them an absolute fortune with star players dropping out and then speaking up for county cricket. I can't imagine they had banked on stokes speaking out the way he has tonight.

They won't up here and in many other places.

Now then, will anyone seriously identify with Welsh fire? This could be a little side bet opportunity here.

don’t know how proof would be delivered, but you would need to go into the areas and give answers of who do you recognise

say Welsh fire or glamorgan

southern whatever or hampshire

phoenix or bears

manchester or Lancashire

northern superchargers or yorkshire

I’m pretty confident it would be county names everytime

The 50 year old blokes won’t but the 11 year old kids will. More than Durham cos they aren’t on the telly.

And I know someone’s then say ‘put the Blast on TV’. But they haven’t. And they won’t.

Do you think tonight will inspire any potential new audience to go? It’s been a poor t20 game

Not up here they won't or another places. Absolutely no chance.

Why would 11 year old kids from Newcastle want to associate themselves with a team in Leeds when they can just watch an identical product in Durham?

One other thing, if finals day were shown on bbc, it would be hugely popular in my opinion

though it always sells out anyway
