The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

Mouthpiece?

Two people got caught throwing something and both got arrested. Hopefully they both get a long ban at least and a prison sentence if throwing anything dangerous.

A mate of mine (Sunderland supporter before you say anything) only saw a flare coming down. Don't know what the other item was. But yes we do have a few idiots just like you do. The vast majority of us are OK and had a good time mingling with your supporters. Just how it should be.
You seem to have hundreds of idiots tbh. Hopefully your allocation is reduced to 200-300 next time to weed them out 👍🏻

Spoke to our security team at SAFC yesterday and they said they've got someone on cctv throwing the bottle, and glass was thrown into the NE corner also. Add onto the smoke canister which was thrown and hit an old fella in the North Lower I'm hoping a few of your lot are getting a knock and get life time bans or jail time.

One of the worst moves the club has ever made is sticking the away fans up there. Killed the atmosphere in the stadium as it basically stopped any home/away fan banter/abuse and the problem with missiles being thrown down on our fans has been getting worse over the years. I honestly couldn't enjoy the match from the North Stand as it would always be in my head that a missile could land on me from a great height at any time.

Can't do anything about it this season but I'd be putting them back in the South Stand where they are easier to police. Next aim would be trying to restore the SWC to its former glories.

Agree except not South.

They can do something by installing netting in front of the away section.

Dont think the 95% of decent away fans should be behind netting . Work on ground to make it viable to have a corner or just give them the back quarter of the length of the concourse . Hard to throw stuff and inevitably spotted if do.

Come past that quarter and sniper goes to work. But warn them of pending death if enter no mans land of course.

After Sunday I couldn't care less about the 95% to be honest.

Someone could have been seriously injured and doing nothing before the next match isn't an option.

SWC to its former glory? Nowt like rewriting history. It was slated on here for years - "charva corner" "not as loud as they they think they are" "can't be heard from the north stand" "songs and patter is shite " - these were comments aimed at the SWC endlessly on here

Now we have a 'singing section ' stretching across the south stand and south west corner, probably 4000-6000 in size depending on the game, and you want to give the south stand to the away fans and force all of our chanters into a section less than 2000 seats big.

You have fell into the trap that believes that having 3000 away fans filling the stadium with thier chants from behind the goal in the south stand equates to the SOL having a 'good atmosphere '

Just put a net up

Yeah I'm in the North Stand and to be honest this can be sorted instantly by installing netting in front of the away section. It's Davison and the board who are blocking it against the advice of the security team.

Oh do fuck off with this south stand crap.
We ain’t moving again

The singing section we have now generates nowhere near as noise as what the SWC used to back in the day. It's a fact that the atmosphere has suffered massively since the away fans were moved. It was flat as a fart on Sunday. Would have been much better with 2k away fans in the South stand and the chants going back and forth with the SWC.

The away fans would police themselves better if the consequences of arsehole behaviour was that everyone else gets a restricted view when the retractable nets go up.

I'd shove them in the south east corner. Already self contained for the family zone, and next to the "home end" to add to the atmosphere. Family zone can be moved to North East or North West corner. Doesn't make much sense having the best behaviour section of the ground next to the loudest and lairiest bit anyway.

sorry like, but you can't just say something is 'fact' when its an absolute load of bollocks. i had my ST in the SWC for years and years and we were screaming out for a bigger singing section because the SWC was impossible to expand and regularly got outsung by the away fans. there was about 2000 of us penned in, and regularaly 3000+ away fans.

now, we have a 'home end' stretching from the SWC to the SEC, potentially upto 10,000 in the singing section, and you are telling me that the old SWC 2000 lads were louder? you are talking utter shite, you have no idea what you are talking about

Sorry but thats bollocks, are you old enough to remember away fans in south stand? Fair enough odd few teams would sell out and create atmosphere/banter but a lot of the time, even in the prem, teams would struggle to bring more than 1-1.5k and end was empty - it looked shite on tv as well.
Atmosphere has suffered massively due to the worst period of football in the clubs history, not the away fans moving imo.

Leave them were they are.

Put a couple of decent static super high Res cameras on the roof/wall along with a retractable net.

A good few thousand pound and that's it sorted for me, and I sit slap bang in the middle of the lower north stand.

It was much louder. The atmosphere has gone downhill since the away fans were shifted and you are talking shite if you try to argue otherwise. Extending around to the South stand has diluted the atmosphere, not enhanced it.

Aside from all that, Sunderland supporters in the North stand are becoming more and more at risk of serious injury.

The smoke bomb yesterday landed in the middle of families mate. A family behind us left because the bairns were terrified.

You’re right that a bottle is far more dangerous but we shouldn’t make light of this ridiculous nonsense of chucking smoke bombs. If one lands in a bairns hood for example, it’s not a pleasant experience for them - especially if they have asthma

Smoke bombs are fine for me until they are used as a weapon. Have the same opinion on bottles funnily enough.
