Week before any mags match the nerves kick in and all I can think about is the match.
Boro will literally be just another game. Maybe a slight bit edge to it, but nothing more than that.
When they won the league Cup it didn't annoy me in the slightest. If the mags won anything I'd be gutted.

I joke. Who gives a shit lads really. You have been having this same debate for years. Some Sunderland fans care, some Sunderland fans don't. I certainly know a lot of Boro fans who wouldn't give Sunderland a second thought. Means nothing. The game will have an edge as it always has done. Just go to the football and enjoy it for what it is. Better than playing MK Dons.

The fact is it will be treated as a 'derby' by the police and you won't get them mixing before the game around the pubs so that tells you everything. Personally I just don't see it, having worked all around teeside a lot of them really do hate us but for me its bizarre and one way.

Eric gates hair is spot on though - some of the matches at Ayresome in the 70's and 80's we're pretty savage, and I also remember 'scenes' at Sunderland train station too.

The derby is a myth though. It is a subjective concept in football. It’s not one that actually exists. A derby is only a derby if you think it is. If you would like a game with a team local to you to be one. And for me I like the Middlesbrough games to be seen as a derby.
