Durham v Derbyshire 11th-14th July

Tremendous application and common sense showed by the 2 Macs, especially batting down the order with the pressure on in both innings and also on debut.Likewise with Johnny Bushnell in the last game.Might be worthwhile for the more experienced players to take note 🤔

We usually get beat there so that’s progress

Well , usually get beat at most places
You played some good cricket, certainly look an organised side and judging by the fact your coaching staff were visible all day and happily chatting to Derby members, it's a telling sign that you're making progress and your members are happy/seeing positive signs. Meanwhile our head coach and director nowhere to be seen as per usual which tells you what they think. Good luck for the rest of the season

Yes, a measure of your progress compared to Durham's regression is that Derby were 59pts behind Durham at the end of last season are currently ahead of them in the CC. Could well have been a greater difference had you not delayed your declaration, obviously mustn't have realised how hapless Franklin's Durham are.
A good game though compared to the norm this season.
Lengthy interview with Arthur on the Derbyshire website.
Sod all , as normal, from Franklin on the Durham site.

Like I say... Progression zero at Durham and communication virtually zero. They don't give a toss. It's a rotten, ignorant, useless culture at the club behind the scenes with management
Micky Arthur seems happy enough
🗣 "We've been calling the shots and that, for me, is progress."

Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, was pleased with #DCCC's efforts in the draw against Durham, and says their red ball development is clear to see"

Franklin has done an interview which was on the site after the game and youtube

He sounded fairly content. Just looked at the table, we're on 111 points sitting in 6th place. Still fairly packed apart from Notts, just got to hope we start winning soon.
Yes,it's that sort of phraseology which validates the criticism he receives. It's his responsibility to provide a pathway to winning, along with North,of course. We haven't been winning games because we haven't been taking 20 wickets so clearly that should be the priority. So we appoint a batsman rather than a bowler as our 2nd overseas player.

His solution to a pathway to winning in the T20 was saying "we have to find ways of winning" - erm........... maybe select different players from time to time :lol:

& yes you're spot on with the red ball game, but it seems Maddinson is mates with North so it stands out as a "job for the boys" when we're a tad desperate for a bowler given we have only won 1 game this season yet I think we're 2nd top on batting points in the table.......... so we recruit a batsman, when we have a young lad who scored well on 1st class debut and who hit 180 for the 2nd XI a week or so ago who was dropped this week....... cracking :lol::oops:

Just noticed your performances last season pre Micky Arthur were played 10, won 0, you finished 50 points behind Durham in that group. Fast forward just shy of a year and you're currently 13 points ahead of Durham and you've won 2 games in 9 which most definitely is progress. Small steps but definitely moving in the right direction.

Yup , most players improving although Reece and Godleman have regressed

Very well batted Trev, TSS a very good debut and Stan picking up a couple of wickets and batting well too. Great to see Rushy back to form.

Overall however, another disappointnent and its one win still.

The points about coach interaction on recent threads are very relevant and the way Will and Alan W have always interacted with members has always been to their credit.

Last year at Edbaston on the rained off afternoon day 4 there were 2 of us walking round the empty stands, both of us had Durham caps on. North and Franklin were chatting and we passed them. We had travelled 200 miles to support the team and if we hadnt asked their thoughts as to the possibility of play they would have completely ignored us, this in a 3000 seater stand with 4 of us in total in it.

Sadly this has been the norm during their time here. I dont wish to hassle coaches etc but a small recognition of our pressence would have been appreciated.

With results not going well PR is a major area and something they should both be far more aware of. Communication is key and there seems to be very little at the moment. Not good when crowds are clearly falling.

Whilst dumped into the backwaters by the ECB the 50 over cup is now a very important competition for the club and one our 2 leaders need to get right. Another failure would not be acceptable. A last chance to save a pretty depressing campaign.
