Callum Doyle

He was decent to start with but had no pace and the turning circle of a tanker. Personally I think he’ll struggle in the championship where pace seems to be key.

It will be a step up just based on going up a league. If he plays anyway.
Yeah but we’re in the same league now, don’t know whether they’ve based their decision on believing that Coventry are better and will be better for his development or because they believe we are better and he won’t get as much game time

Somewhat on the fence about how I feel about this one.
He definitely showed some good qualities and had some excellent performances and we ran him into the ground.
Is he ready for the championship, I'm not so sure - I feel if we really wanted him again we would have just loaned him again.

I'd take Ballard on a perm over Doyle on a loan every day of the week.

If we had the option agreed for a second year and wanted him then we will have had first choice on him but we signed Ballard. We could probably do with another CB but not one we could give match time assurances for. Would just be an Alves situation again.

No coincidence we became solid outfit when he was out the side

He was very lazy defender for me, has a very worrying lack of pace when turned

I hope he plays first game Stewart would have field day against him with right service, Neil will know this

Nice kid who put the graft in and is only a bairn

Think people forget that.

Good luck to him , just not v us and hope he gets good reception

He will. He always gave us all

He was flogged to death by Johnson and he was unable to keep his standards high. He had a few nightmares but he’s only a kid, as you say

His watch out is his body shape, he could easily balloon

Anything that Calum Doyle lacked will come through as he develops . Already a young England prospect. Its not easy for a ( at the time) 17 year old to be thrown into the spotlight at such a big club and come through as well as he did . Good luck to him . But dont come back to the SOL and score against us . His parents must be so proud and rightly so.

Ben Davies is the one I would want to see come to Sunderland. Wales International & Alex neil nows him from he's Preston days

Good luck to the lad other than when he plays against us.

He clearly has ability but was run into the ground by Johnson. He’s only a kid and I’ve no doubt he will get fitter and improve his defensive abilities.

Surprised cov have taken him mind as they are a good side and I don’t see where he gets a game for them…..same as he would no longer get a starting role with us.

General feedback on Doyle seems harsh. Looked a real talent early doors, got burnt out and is still very young - was a great experience for him and ultimately he contributed to our promotion. All parties won.

I wouldn't have complained if we'd resigned him on loan and would've provided good cover for the likes of Wright and Batth who have injury records. That said I'm glad we're prioritising starting 11 signings and Doyle unfortunately isnt that priority.

Good luck to him, he's got a very bright future.

He will, of course, have played in front of much bigger crowds than those at Coventry. But I wonder how he copes when the locals defecate and fling their excrement down from the stands. That's got to come as a surprise to any young man making his way in the world.
