Durham v Derbyshire 11th-14th July

Interesting to compare the records and the body language of the two head coaches recently on BBC and Durham CC websites recently.

Derbyshire will be without their prolific scoring Pakistani overseas Masood but 2 teams have similarity in both strong batting and weak bowling. Man for man Durham look the stronger squad yet Derbyshire have achieved far more this season in both formats, have progressed whist Durham have regressed. If ever the influence a coach can make cannot be better illustrated than comparing the performance of these 2 sides.

They have won one more game in four day cricket

True but rather selective. Overall Derbyshire have won 7 more games Derbyshire were below Durham in both formats last season , reversed in both formats this season.
Not talking T20 they obviously have been a lot better in that format but not that much in four day

Yeh, we're arguing semantics. When talking of progressing it's measured against previous standards. Sorry,I thought that would have been understood.
You're perfectly correct statistically-Derbyshire are only 13 points better than Durham.

See how it goes. Heard good things from folk in terms of progression within Derbyshire and how they feel about their coach who I think was an excellent coup for them. I'm down Monday and Tuesday. Wife graduates on Wednesday so I'll see what the game is like at the end of day 3 before deciding if I'm going on Thursday, if the wicket is shite then I'll go to work, I'm not watching any more boring 4 day flat wicket cricket this year.

Not sure if Sowter is still netting with the club he has been released by Middlesex so is effectively out of the game till the hundred starts.
If he is looking to continue as a first class cricketer I wonder if he did enough in the T20 for Durham to see him as a long term option for championship cricket. I think two genuine slow bowlers might be more effective than the four man right arm medium pace attack that normally does the trick at The Riverside even in July.

We certainly require some variation in the attack but whether Sowter would enhance it is questionable-30 year old with a career 20 wickets@50 suggests not. It was crying out for the 2nd overseas appointment to be a quality spinner -there must be a handful over here with India, some of whom would surely be available. Instead we appoint an underwhelming Aussie batsman who in his recent interview disclosed that he's a mate of North. Pardon my cynicism if I suspect nepotism once again blocking an opportunity for a youngster.
No prizes for guessing who'll make for Maddinson on Monday.
Have you ever seen a conversation on here that wasn't an argument with chops?
I don't have a problem at all with someone disagreeing with me but I take exception if they use invective or get personal. Fortunately they're few on this forum but for the first time ever I've had to put a poster on ignore.

Yeah I think Sowter is probably another leggie who is handy in T20 when batsmen need to attack but probably just gets milked in first class cricket.
Agree with you about signing another overseas batsmen and wouldn't even have two overseas player for the 59 over comp.

Yes,totally unnecessary for a development competition. Just further confirmation of the "jobs for the boys" culture.
