In about three yearsIs he England's greatest batsman?
No, but id say top 5 and definitely the best short form player alongside ButtlerIs he England's greatest batsman?
Why not cookI'd say he's up there with the greats. By that I mean Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Hutton and Barrington not Cook and Gower.
Opens up the debate for me that that bowlers look much fitter, stronger and faster today…..with all test nations having 85mph bowlers.Modern era yes. However, opens up the Boycott covered/uncovered pitches debate for me.
This: He's the greatest in my lifetime of watching cricket from after the uncovered pitches era. Can't really comment on the players I never saw. If the debate was the best batsman in the world over the last 50 years he would be in the argument.I think he's the best I've seen playing for England, and that's going back to the days of Edrich and Boycott. I'd believe it if anyone daid he's best of all time, for England.
It's hard to think of someone from outwith these shores who would have been better. Viv Richards, Lara probably.
If you're going white ball YJB has to be right up there, and to be fair YJB and Buttler have a far bigger impact in t20No, but id say top 5 and definitely the best short form player alongside Buttler
Averages 50+ in 1 dayers and 35+ (I think) in T20If you're going white ball YJB has to be right up there, and to be fair YJB and Buttler have a far bigger impact in t20
I'm not being critical of Root, just how exceptional the other two are, especially when you throw strike rates into the mixAverages 50+ in 1 dayers and 35+ (I think) in T20
Yeah, Buttler is probably the best short form batter, Bairstow needs 1 more stellar tournament to join them for meI'm not being critical of Root, just how exceptional the other two are, especially when you throw strike rates into the mix
