Boycott Qatar

One of my children is gay, I won't be watching any of the world cup. I will fight anyone who abuses my children whether that is their sexuality or shoe size or music preference as I am their dad. I will probably lose but don't care. For a global sport to take place in Qatar is horrific to me and should be to rational free thinking adults. Allowing the PIF of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to invest in a club shows where both the government and shareholders of this country prioritise .
My son is trans, and although the last person to need protection, I know how you feel. You can say boycotting won't make a difference, but if a huge majorty world wide boycotted, it wouldn't even go ahead.

Got to admit back in November it was fairly easy to say yeah boycott the world cup... but I am now 2 weeks in to the summer without meaningful football and I am climbing the walls. So no, I shan't be doing that.

I completely agree with the fact that these middle-east nations should not be getting to host an event such as the World Cup, their human rights record alone should ban them from hosting, but the conditions migrant workers faced should have been a step too far.
Now that said, regardless of whether we watch or not all of the gate receipts and sponsorship monies will be paid in advance, all of the tv advertising will be bought in advance. As far as I can see, there is no winner to not watching an event that is already happening.
Oh and despite this point of view, I still manage to have two gay kids (not sure how that happened) and I know at least one of them will be watching with me (even if he is cheering for the USA)

As much as I hate the tournament being in Qatar I will probably still watch the England games. Won’t be attending though, first tournament I won’t of been to since Japan/Korea in 2002.

Personally can't see a boycott working at this point. Too many people who dont care and too many brown envelopes already been cashed. It really needed to be the teams entering it be it the FA or each countries representative or the players/management themselves.

My plan is to basically watch it on IPTV that way they don't get any numbers or money from me and I dont get punished for missing out as a fan due to football being corrupt.

It'll make no difference but it makes me feel better in my own little way despite whatever I do having no effect ont he situation matterless of what I do.
You don't need to bother with iptv to be fair, you can watch on tele and it won't actually affect the viewing figures

Football supporters, me included, will watch virtually any match that's put in front of them and pick who they want to win sometimes based on the flimsiest reason.

We'll then cheer the goals, argue offsides as if our lives depend on it and have another drink if 'our team' wins.

I won't be watching this World Cup, it's more fake than a Sunday Market Cartier.

It will not make a difference to this world cup. It will still go ahead, they will still market it as the biggest event in football. Action now will not change it, same as action years ago would not have changed it or if England led, would only be seen as sour grapes after missing out.

But if ticket sales struggle or the big one, home audiences are low, then it will be recorded as a bit of a flop. The sponsors want their money back from increased product exposure. A boycott of them will force them to put pressure on FIFA. While we don't have much of a voice, Coca-Cola do. A Christmas boycott of coke will hurt them badly and be a double whammy as they tend to think of Christmas as their thing. If broadcasters show low viewing figures, again they will put pressure on FIFA, and more domestically if things like big pub world cup events are low (no big beer garden marquees in the middle of winter either), then the pubs and landlord associations will feed that back to the FA, who will feed that into FIFA.

Clearly they will not call the world cup off if it gets to a slow start, but it sends a clear message for next time. Fans will not consume anything thrown at us because of our football addiction. There is a line and blatant corruption with exploitation of humans, and complete lack of acceptance of homosexual people or lower status for women, is just not acceptable. FIFA want to make money and they are not going to do that if they appear corrupt or give it to nations who have backwards laws where it is the woman who is punished for being raped.

It will be interesting to see a poll in November, will watch, won't watch, only watch England/your nation. Follow that up with a similar poll after and see how many caved.
I wo’t be watching any of it , hopefully league’s 1+2 will be screened on iFollow , I will be watching those games instead.
Does the Championship have a break too then?

It would be interesting if, instead of boycotting, pride affiliated groups went to Qatar and made their presence known with demonstrations in fanzones. Would the authorities dare to publicly lock them up

That may depend on how England do.

If they're shite and elimated some people will claim they boycotted it on principle

I won't watch any of it, for the first time ever, as I think England are being hypocritical by going.

It's sportswashing on the biggest stage and absolutely stinks.

As far as I know yes , was the only minus to winning promotion haha
