How great would it be

If Root went past Tendulkar?

Indian twitter would be class

It’s certainly possible. Especially seeing as they don’t seem to want to pick him in white ball stuff (and given there is no competition for places)
still in the 50 overs shirley, but yes i hope root can do it. probably needs at least another five years

He’s going at over 1000 currently. He has a chance if injury free and down to if he wants to bat on to his late thirties

Just wondering with odis and tests combined Tendulkar must have well over 20 odd thousand

wonder what Joes total so far is

Its mental considering he plays his cricket in England, its the hardest place to bat, and with nobody averaging close to 40 since Cook retired.

I personally think he could beat the record, and if he does beat that, it will never ever be beaten, not just because its hard to do, just because there will be less and less test cricket played say over the next 50 years, nobody will have the opportunity to do so.

One more thing to add, Root is a fantastic T20 player, absolutely fantastic, in the WC in India, against SA, is the best knock I have seen by an Englishman in that format.

He has fell away because he has not played it, and sacrificed it for the test team as captain

I feel that as he realises he just has to bat now, he will go back into that market.

Kane Williamson and Steve Smith regularlu get IPL deals, and he is better than both of them in white ball cricket.

So, sorry for rambling, my point being that could impact his longevity .

Problem with Root is that I don’t think anyone expects him to remain totally injury free. And there’ll be a bad year in there somewhere for him, it’s only natural
