Inside the Durham pace factory

The Rat

Striker

Class article this, makes you proud of the club, the bowlers they have produced, outstanding, I totally agree when they talk about the north east personality having a different

Durham players they produce are just different to players from a lot of areas, they just have a bit more about them.

People who have to work harder, work harder. It's not rocket science and probably a similar story to the explosion in success of black underprivileged Americans in sports like boxing and basketball, football in the slums in South america and other examples.

You might have a point there. Been very interested for a while in the demographics of the big American sports in terms of players versus coaches.

Are you referring to what they call the quarterback issue? Or something like that. Similar in ice hockey, the black players get the 'big bastard' roles but rarely the more cerebral positions. Centre ice in hockey is almost non existent for black players. Likewise in sticks. It's not a sport with many black lads but hugely in particular those roles.

I think in basketball it took longer for black players to end up at point guard. And yeah there's still talk of white people getting jobs quicker but I don't know how true that is

More the player/coach issue.

Latest figures - 70% of NFL players are black. However less than 10% of head coaches are black.

football in this country too, the majority of the top English players on my life time have been working class, its why the media targets them

To be honest, I think it's the same thing just at a different stage of the career. Society has realised black people can be athletic, but still hasn't realised that can think too

That's what the ground should have been renamed instead of seat unique Riverside

Big intimidating "welcome to the Durham pace factory" sign outside the entrance.
