What does surprise me is that in terms of pound for pound investment, we must look attractive compared to many clubs based on asset value and potential for exploitation.
Netflix and multiple Wembley appearances will of helped in this regard, however, the following is a major issue….
We don’t have an international football success based profile that is recognised globally or across Europe. We are perceived as a parochial club, albeit a very well supported one.
I wrote the word “exploitation” because that is the sort of investors that we will attract, sadly. They are people looking to exploit the Premier League and TV cash, particularly the cash flow and accessing tax breaks under the cover of football.
I hope that I am wrong, but that is how I see football “investment” from international business men. They don’t really throw cash at it, they guarantee debts and loans whilst they access free flowing cash at the top level. That is why they bail when clubs get relegated…..
