The student event on June 8th vs Birmigham

statement from the club

they will be given the trapdoor stand
number of reasons behind decision including the need to engage with a wider audience which will encourage long term support of Durham and cricket and bring in much needed revenue from a new auidence
we are aware there were some issues with last years event and have made a number of changes to procedures and put measures in place to ensure that the enjoyment of members and fans is not affected
for this game the students will be escorted to the ground and exclusively enter via gate 5 and occupy the Vertu stand. This area will be barriered off so that students cannot access other parts of the ground and we have an increased security presence in this area
for this game only gate 5 and gate 6 will not be available for entry and the vertu stand will not be available to sit in

Has there been an instance of ‘home’ supporters being segregated from other home supporters for these types of reasons in the history of sport?
There's been a line of stewards between East 1 and 2 blocks and the rest of the East Stand at Hull all season. Lads with tickets elsewhere trying to stand with their mates in those two blocks apparently

I would like to think it would be the gentle souls who turned up to watch the Uni v Durham game back in March who attend this game but can't see it.

Tbh I would have rather they had just come out with it and said -"Sorry folks we've got no money so we're going to have to let them back in again! " rather than crap like encouraging long term support of Durham.

In the words of Dylan ( the singer songwriter not the hippy rabbit from Magic Roundabout )... 'You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows'.

On a lighter note that bit about the students being escorted to the ground conjours up an image of The Deckchair Casuals being held back as they try to break through the police cordon to get at them.:D

As if the club seriously think these pissed up students will become Durham fans/attend more games in the future, absolutely no chance.

I'm glad they have given us notice this time after I contacted the club earlier asking for a statement on this.

I know of 7 not going so far because of this who are regular attenders of games in all comps. Not spoken to some other regulars who I know, I can't imagine they will be too keen to attend, they aren't T20 fanatics to start with

PS Warning to all students.
All trapdoors will be fully operational to facilitate eviction to any unruly spectators.

Make that 8 . I watched the few games that were played in the first season it was introduced and didn't return until 2018

The club say the area will be "barriered " off to prevent the students accessing other areas of the ground....mmm, really ?
How do they get to toilets, and, more importantly, for the club, how do they get to the BAR ? To spend their money.

It was barriered off last year as they had the trapdoor and County Durham stand. this time it seems they're only getting the trapdoor stand, so I'd imagine they will have access to mobile bars and mobile toilets unless they give them the old scoreboard toilets.

the club are deluding themselves if they believe this will encourage long term support for the club. it will merely piss members off.

That’s brilliant that man. Escorted to the ground and contained within 1 stand. For the fkn cricket

Aye. What would possess someone to want that? aye it'll encourage people to like cricket in future being 'welcomed' in like that and treated like animals in a zoo
Open air DJ set

i wonder if this will include sound barriers.
