England Squad For New Zealand Tests

Yeah somebody who batted at 3 and scored 153 and 109 in his last most recent series is really likely to score less runs if he continued to bat there!!!

I think really struggle to grasp the concept of moving players to suit a given team at a certain time.

And simply just look at stats and stats.

On your logic you would never move any player from any position at any time if they had been historically successful in that position in the past!

No matter how much a team may need that to happen.

We score less runs when root bats 3 than we do when he’s 4

That’s a fact

I dunno what on earth your arguing about

You know the first part is not what I am saying!!

As for the rest you basically saying if someone is scoring runs in one position you would never move them, which personally I can never agree with.

As it has to judged imo on the make up of your team and what any given team needs at that time.

The Buttler argument is he averages 46 at 6 so based entirely of your logic not mine he should be in the side in that position!
Then why are you bringing Buttler into it? There's nothing logical about it at all, it's all a bit weird. You OK?

I'm not 'basically saying' anything as absolute, stop projecting that shite please. For instance, they're giving Pope a go at 3 and that's fine by me.

Hopefully he'll settle at 3 and score big runs. At which point I'll say we should leave him at 3, you'll want to move him up to open to solve that problem. :D

No both England fans mate so really hope he scores runs at 3, and I am fine with that if Root stays at 4.

Just think players should be flexible to help a team when needed and if that means moving them to not preferred option then so be it as team always comes first for me,and it’s a indisputable fact we have tried player after player at 3 who has failed time and time again.

And rather than keep doing that should move our best player up one, as clearly better option at 3 then anyone else.

It’s a simple fair point imo, can see yours just disagree, if we had viable option at 3 would totally agree with you.

If you don’t now you never will, it’s fine you disagreeing, but not understand the point after several posts is ridiculous

Your point is incorrect like I dunno how many more times you need that explaining

You’ve been saying This for 5 years and it’s been wrong the whole time.

Number 4 is the most important position in a batting lineup

You simply look at things far to black and white mate and in general you have a point.

But the most important position in a batting line up is entirely dependent on the players you have got and the quality of them and what a team needs the most at any given time.

No worries, it just seems the two of you have this same discussion over and over when it's clear neither of you are going to change your view (which is fair enough, I can see both sides).
Aye you right sometimes you get that involved in the discussion you forget everyone else might be bored to tears with it 😀

Can we not just have @The Rat and @Voice of fair play agree to disagree on this one and never have another thread go like this?

He’s the one who mentions it every time!

Stokes decided he’s batting 4

End of discussion!

Absolutely agree which is why root bats at 4 and you don’t expose your best player

I watched Overton get 44 for Somerset today against a strong Hampshire pace attack. Shame the top order weren't up to it!
