NUFC and other Sportswashing Spring 2022

Chelsea had debts of almost £100m and were days away from administration when Abramovich took over. Newcastle were in a similar position, debts were slightly lower, but Shepherd had heavily mortgaged everything he could in order to buy the title and failed. Newcastle were in serious trouble and were lucky Ashley never carried out due diligence and subsequently provided the interest free loans which saved the club.
The above is true...the banks, certainly one of them, was extremely close to calling in the debt owed, hence Shepherd and co pulling the wool over Ashley's eyes for a quick and immediate sale.

NUFC the gift that keeps on giving. Just when all is looking rosey for them they shoot themselves in the foot. I thought that trip to Saudi, and the dancing with swords, was odd.

How long until female only sections of the ground? How long until no alcohol served during Ramadan? How long until no pork products served inside the ground? Would any Newcastle fans be bothered by this as long as they sign new players and make positive noises about winning the Champions League?

None of us know the detail of the Castore deal but it will not bring in mega bucks. I am led to believe the Liverpool deal is 20% of shirt sales and most teams receive 5-7.5%. How many shirts do they think they will sell? Data indicates Man City sell 1m ( ) and maybe they will get there. But for now realistically you are talking 7.5% of 500k x £75 = £2.8m - changing your shirt to match the Saudi colours for an amount of money that doesn't buy Chris Wood's left peg.

And what about Fun88 in all of this? In July 2020 they just signed a long term extension - they aren't going to walk away for nothing.

Even though the thicko that is Geordie Dan is trying to rewrite history (nowt new here with the scum) it was Barclays iirc.

Thats grim as fuck. The irony being if it was any other club the mags would be saying pretty much what we are. Football (not just Newcastle) is morally bankrupt.

General consensus in twitter from mags appears to be the Saudi kit is a smart business move because of the revenue they will make from selling the kits.

Someone has decided selling 1 million kits in Saudi will generate them 70 million in revenue. Unless they are expecting them to retaiI for £700 + a shirt don't think they realise how kit sponsorship works or why kit manufacturers pay clubs to make their kits.

Love him or hate him but Mike Ashley did save Newcastle from bankruptcy and was likely also ..potentially...one of the only buyers who could've kept this club afloat in the premier league given that nobody was rushing in to take over the crumbling situation that the Halls had left us in.

Had Hall and Shepherd stayed on we would be lower league by now and waiting for some owner/messiah to rescue us and it may not have been an Ashley. It may have been a proper chancer.

Ashley stabilised this club. The biggest problem for Ashley was his mistake in bringing in Keegan and not pandering to his fantasy whims of him.
Probably the most sensible post I’ve seen from a mag.
I try to tell this to local mags but they won’t have it.
