C.C:: Sussex v Durham (Hove)

Not confirmed but it’s been the intention it’ll just be fitness

I suspect he will play a set number of games before the first test, in agreement with the physio

Hopefully the set number is 3 red ball games and 3 T20’s ;).
I muted it.

I’ve done that a few times but only because the commentary seems to be a second or two ahead of the picture.

Big period of play for me this. We MUST get another 2 wickets at the very least before Lunch. If not, I fear we’ll still be bowling this time tomorrow with a huge deficit facing us.

Gibson drops Alsop (on 9) from a return catch. Bugger.

Pujara has scored 6 of his 7 runs (intentionally) down to third man. Get a fielder in.
-
Another slice of luck for Alsop, thick edge through the vacant third slip region for four.

132-3.

Fuck sake, it gets worse 🤦‍♂️

IF we take enough wickets to get Tom Clark in, every bowler should target his head. Absolutely no call whatsoever for what he did.

On a wider point, it’s alarming how many players have already suffered concussions this season.

Orr lbw b Potts 27. 95-2.

Excellent bowling from Potts today, was absolutely plumb so I’ve no idea why it took Debenham so long to put his finger up. The

Are you suggesting our players engage in deliberate attempted assault on a fellow professional? Unacceptable.

I appreciate it's not all the same people but theres people criticising Durham for having too many foreigners in the team, people criticising Surrey for signing an overseas player short term to cover injury and criticism for not making signings and having to play young lads who might not be ready

You can't have it both ways like.

And if the likes of bedders and rushy were performing in line with realistic expectations this conversation would probably be totally different

I’m one of the ones who criticises the number of Saffas. If we go down that route there’s no forgiveness for bad results, unlike if we blood the local lads.

We still have a strong local core but a lot are 28-32 so we need to have an eye on the next generation.

I often thought Scott Steel was underused for example.

Totally agree on steel

I know he’s fell away but you never know with more chances

that's fair and i've no reason to doubt your honesty, however i think you'd be in the minority of forgiveness for bad results, both here and in the ground, if we hadn't used dickson this season, bedingham the year before, bancroft the year before that and instead given more cricket to the likes of burnham, steel etc if we'd been getting skittled for 100 and under

Bad results are unforgivable regardless.

You might be right mate.

But I think the main buzz I got from Durham’s success of a decade or so ago was that it was in the main local lads who’d come up through the leagues. A proper emblem of the region, that SAFC/ NUFC will probably never be now.

If the dial tips much further with this squad in terms of South Africans etc it wouldn’t have the same attachment to me, no matter what they win.

Saying that we still have a decent local core and it’s great when they do well. I would still rather we threw a few more in though, local batters in particular.

other than our most recent title our success generally our strongest sides had a big foreign influx, there was a core of local players but i'd say probably smaller than what we have now.

the irony is we're only really struggling because our key homegrown players are under performing - rushworth, borthwick, raine mainly. petersen however needs to click soon or he'll fall into the same category of markram and cook et al

207-4

Alsop lbw b Trevaskis 66. 57 runs more than he should’ve got.

We’re up against it now.

Tom Clark in now. Get into the bastard.

Thought trev was a bit lucky with that based on the replay. Still, I think Raine was turned down earlier for one that looked dead on.

Things looking ominous for Durham depending upon the size of first innings deficit and how Durham bat second innings the debate will be what is worse the batting or the bowling line up.
Wooden spoon looms if this form continues and is not immediately reversed
