ROKER END DISPLAY - CAMBRIDGE UTD - 23/04/2022 - #KeysPhoneScarf

It’s great that the display happens, let’s hope the whole ground gets behind the lads and gets the place bouncing! Last game against Shrewsbury the only time it was bouncing was when we scored the winner in injury time! Let’s make that sort of noise throughout the games!

Hopefully. I’m not sure what the cause is, but the ground is very quiet other than the south stand. It’s no-ones fault, and blaming each other won’t improve it.

I think having the away fans in the gods doesn’t help.

We are lucky to get 2 volunteers midweek mate. Ideally we'd have a squad of 10-15 every week that are obsessed with creating visual displays (which isn't unrealistic in a crowd of 25-30k) but the reality is we don't.
It's staggering that like, I'd have put money on loads of young lads wanting to be involved with our fan base numbers.

It's not good having a tiny amount of fans in this division up there, detracts from the banter. I suppose they need that area logistically for the likes of Sheff Wed etc.

Even in the Prem it looked shite when teams like Stoke only brought 300 fans and the South Stand was mainly empty.

Hopefully once it’s off the ground getting volunteers will be easier. It’s not “cool” yet.

How are future flags fundraiser?

On not getting the club involved, I don’t see the problem with getting them to set them out especially for night games. It’s still “our thing” but means it’s not reliant on the same lads

This is something we’re planning on doing a bit of work on over the summer. The timeframe was too short to get money in, things printed and set out before tomorrow or Tuesday. We’ve been putting all our effort towards to these 2 games.

I understand what you’re saying, but we’d like to think that once we’ve got a bit of momentum we’ll have more than enough people to put things out.

It takes 2 of us an hour to do the flags. Surfers take longer as they’re heavier. Most coloured displays/writing is just a case of putting cards out, it’s the planning of which seats those cards need to go on that takes the time.
get the club to tweet something out? I doubt many of our younger lot get on here really?

We’ve chased all of the SAFC related accounts to share it. The banter page, wee phillie etc etc. Hopefully the younger lads see that.

It’ll take time, but we want to get to a place where we can announce details of a display and we have a set of socials pages with wide enough reach.

Have you asked the club about them promoting it on their Twitter? Or is this something you’re resistant to as it’s too official?

Might help it reach a broader cross-section of people.

Who was it on talk sport tonight talking about the flags ? Guzzler ?

My mate who leads on a matchday. He gets on here but leaves the messageboard/social media stuff to me.

@_ba98_ on twitter (as per the display poster).

it's something we have considered (although I think they'd be reluctant - just a gut feeling knowing how the social media schedules work) but it does feel a little bit too official for my liking.

I can see that perspective but the nice thing about social media is even if they just retweet it then it’s pushing it to a wider audience but not necessarily going as far as saying it’s a club driven initiative. Also less commitment for them in terms of scheduled posts.

Could be the best of both worlds.

This is something we are planning to address in the next few weeks. Fundraising needs to be continuous and not just whenever we fancy doing something new so we can continue to replace & renew what we've already got.

Hopefully this summer is the big one where everything goes up a level (even more so if we get promoted!)

I'll ask again at the weekend when we are in setting up. We've mentioned it in the past but the club have strict media schedules where tweets and promotions are planned in advance and scheduled in using tweetdeck so when a tweet appears it isn't necessarily one of the media lads sat behind a laptop pressing tweet so any of our tweets that they're tagged in are generally not seen.

Credit to the lads doing it, a lot of work goes into these things. If it takes off it will improve the atmosphere beyond recognition. I know people don't like them but look at the 2 big Glasgow clubs, they've got this culture and atmosphere at both grounds is electric (mostly in big games granted as its hard to get that up for it whilst pumping Ross County)

it's that culture that we are searching for. Both of those groups involve teams of 20+ young lads who are obsessed with it. Before the 150th anniversary game at Ibrox this season, the Union Bears were still in Ibrox at 2:30am the night before setting up.

The club are extremely flexible with us in terms of setting up. We've been in countless times during the week but on a matchday the stewards on the wheelchair access know us and welcome us in every week now with or without a club rep with us.

These things simply don't happen unless there's a group of at least 10-15 who buy into the culture. Our whatsapp of 4 people hasn't stopped all week and it's pinging away as I speak but we can't do everything ourselves.
