Another youngster heading off

He’s five years from being of any use to us. In those five years he’s likely to start believing the hype and figure he just needs to show up. Get as much as possible, pat him on the back and wish him the best.
I agree with this.

There’s no point keeping players who are good as kids. We should just do open trials for players once they turn 18+ with no experience in a professional football setup.

As mentioned earlier money wise it’s a no brainier for these kids to move on probably on a few grand a week if not more and if it doesn’t work out normally championship or league 1 club will give them a second bite at the Cherry just purely based on them being at a premier club so they must be good but in terms of getting on the grass Dan Neil has played more games the the rest of them put together

Plenty of players who play at the highest level of youth football, or captain those sides, don't always go on to have stellar professional careers.
Can’t imagine the list of England under 21s not having a decent career would be that big like. The reply was also about players doing nothing, and that did the state of their careers they are at just isn’t true. By the way I’m not one of these who 100% puts it on the owners that they have all gone but your downplaying of the achievements of these young lads is pathetic.

Do you honestly believe this?

If I were 14 and at a league 1 club and there was real interest from premier league teams then I have to say I would be wide eyed and off. Do I think it’s best for him, well it all depends really what those other academies are like. It’s football.

Not at all, as I've said before if you read carefully. I'm not convinced many, if any, of them have the quality to succeed at the higher levels. I was surprised to see Sam Greenwood's recent good performances at that level, and I can admit that and I'm happy to hold my hands if I'm wrong. Would many of the Bali Mumba cult who have harassed me for a while do the same? Coburn's another excellent prospect, and one that often gets overlooked in these conversations. I have a balanced view.

Balanced towards your own agenda somewhat. The writing off of Greenwood vs the signing of Younger as being a coup being one example. Because they were decisions taken by the Madrox regime which some believe you to have been a part of

He's just one dodgy mate, one dodgy girlfriend or one bad injury from being another in the very long list of 'whatever happened to'. Sunderland should cash in and spend the proceeds on someone who can do something for them now.

Unfortunately premier league clubs picking up our best youngsters will keep on happening until when/if we get ourselves sorted out. I love SAFC but if my son at 14 gets offered a contract at Liverpool, Man UTD, Arsenal like has happened with some, even Leeds and Everton, then it would have to be tempting. You'd always wonder what if tbh. We are league 1 and if it didn't work out then the boy could likely get another chance at a league 1 club. Would take a very brave or pretty naive person to just say no at that age.
Agree with this marra.

However he is still a bairn, and like all bairns will need the right advice as he progresses. Of course money will talk in the end and thats that. Imo he would have more chance of making it at Safc as long as we also make steps back to where we belong.

Unfortunately for us, we have a few spivs running the club who won't care about that and sell them to make a quick buck.

But then the chance to come back or to another league 1 club is always there if it doesn't work out.

If they were as clever as they think they are they should be trying to sell the kids without potential.
At that age it's all hearsay about how good a young player is. i.e. they might look good compared to the rest of their age group who might not be a good standard.
A bit of clever marketing by the spivs, bandy the name of a kid unlikely to make it around these greedy clubs and watch them bite, keeping the talented ones for ourselves.
Remember Mike Bassett when they watched the show reel of what they thought was a striker banging them in for all angles... ...and didn't realise it was the keeper they were signing. Just do that . Let's fleece these greedy child traders.

Of course it would make more sense to keep this so called wonderkid, because it he that then his value only ever increase. But as said, the spivs arnt bothered, and certainly not as acute as they think.

Mike Bassett, eh 🤣 Suprised they never tried to sign him
