Underrated players

I think Toney's pretty underrated. Scored as many as Kane this season and has physicality and a bit of pace as well. It's rare to see an English striker like him come on the scene and not get loads of attention. Mbuemo doesn't get a mention either but has had a pretty good debut season for someone so young and has been ridiculously unlucky with the amount of times he's hit the post.

Tomori would be my other pick. Watching him at Chelsea, although he was very raw and evidently had a lot of developing, it was clear that he had the physical attributes to be a brilliant centre back. I don't really know why he's not been thought of as a top prospect, or how he's still not getting a look in for England when he's a mainstay at the back for Italy's leading team this season.

Agree with both of these.

Tomori should be knocking on the England first XI door, let alone the squad. And Toney should absolutely be Kane's understudy in the sense that he is the best option who can replicate Kane's ability to drop deeper and create, as well as lead the line. None of the others can do that.

Both should go to Qatar.

Yes, think its fair.

I think this board - and most football fans/writers, maybe even footballers (I mean look at the f***ing Ballon D'or) - have a huge bias against defensive skills, period. Applies to all defenders too.

But you do have to laugh at the people in England threads calling for central midfields without a single DM.

Someone like Seb Larsson, for example. People used to say "he just stands and points". He was so good defensively and could deliver incredible set pieces, hence why he has 150ish caps. Ridiculous.

It's nonsense imo.

Phillips was better. Even at 36/37 he was helping teams get promoted to the Premier League.

Bridges had a better first touch, a beautiful first touch really. But that gives the illusion that he was all-round a better footballer. I don't think he was.
And they are probably the same people who slated Pep for not playing a DM in the champions league final.

Harry Maguire. He was definitely overrated after a good World Cup and playing alongside Jonny Evans and not worth the fee they paid. But it's gone too far the other way now. Yes he's bang out of form, as are the entire Man United team, but he's only ever let England down once vs Denmark and doesn't deserve to be the figure of fun he's made out to be.
