CC :: Glamorgan v Durham

Happy New Season lads and lasses

Thursday, 11:00 start.

Real positive vibes going into this season, we really should be looking to get promoted - I fancy us to win the league. Not getting giddy, just think we’re a Division One team playing in the second tier at present. Don’t buy the hype or the love-in with Notts either. They’re good, but they’re beatable.

Hoping Lees is back, I notice Crawley is expected to play for Kent (per the BBC). Aside from that, I think the only injury doubt is Carse, he’s been rehabbing for weeks but having not played any part of any friendly I doubt he’ll be ready for the opener. Petersen is due to arrive for our second game at home.

Glamorgan will be without Labuschagne, they’ve signed Michael Neser and he’s expected to arrive in time, but whether he’s over the jet lag or not will remain to be seen. They’ll also be without batsman Eddie Byrom and the exciting young seamer Ruaidhri Smith due to injury.

Ha’way Durham!

So whats the Durham XL going to be?
It looks like the 4 seamers are nailed on with Rushy Potts Raine and Coggers with Eckersley taking the gloves.
The question looks like will they play 6 frontline batsmen or 5 with Ned at 6 and Trevaskis gets a game. I suppose it may depend if Lee's is available.

Batting will look a lot stronger when Lees, Stokes and Petersen are all available.

Marnus hasn’t arrived for Glamorgan yet but Neser is available

FTECB haven't listed Lees as unavailable so presumably he plays. Jones at 3 if(when) we lose an early wicket and Trevaskis at 6 as he's the 6th best batsman available imo.
Mind we might struggle to name a Durham XL :?:

Probably, I just rattled names off. Dickson is the interesting one, not sure where he will bat.

Mind I'm amazed Bedingham wasn't picked up today for the 100.

Potts, Carse, Wood, Stokes were picked up. Not sure if Ben Raine was.

Generally I could give less of a f*ck about that competition and I’d rather see Durham players staying with us and focusing on doing well for us.

From a human standpoint though, I always like to see our lads gaining recognition and that’s before looking towards the financial benefit for these lads.

Back on topic, I wouldn’t be against seeing both Dickson and Clark involved in bolstering the batting, with both likely to give way when Stokes and Peterson arrive.

Lees
Jones
Borthwick
Bedingham
Clark
Dickson
Eckersley
Coughlin
Raine
Potts
Rushworth
Trevaskis

I know that’s 12 ;), but it’s April, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Trevaskis is left out due to the pitch likely not taking spin. He’s a solid three dimensional cricketer though, so it wouldn’t be a controversial choice to stick him at 7/8 and have one of Dickson or Clark missing out.

If the pre season is anything to go by Borthwick will be at 4 and Bedingham at 5.

I did wonder what would happen when Peterson arrives, perhaps the pre-season movement has been to ready players for the scenario where we have Peterson, Borthwick, Bedingham following the openers.

Exciting times though, I’ve referenced elsewhere too that there could be a decent chunk of the season (April-May, first 7 games) where we have the best batting lineup in county cricket.

A lot of its buts and maybes if Peterson can adapt if borthwick can play a lot better than last season

Yeah I get the feeling Keegan will bat at 3 when he arrives. Long term probably a permanent change for Borthwick to bat at 4.
If Keegan "comes off" and Borthwick can improve on last season Durham should score enough runs to be very competitive. Hopefully they don't have to rely so heavily on Bedingham he was different level last year
