Physically, that should never have been a question mark for either party. Poor on both sides if it’s because his body isn’t up to it. Mentally is a completely different scenario. But there’s a wide range of that conversation ranging from the more serious end which I wouldn’t argue with to him just not feeling up to standard anymore, which isn’t an excuse. Even at 39, we’ve had far worse players play for us who weren’t good enough.

Aye, that’s a well reasoned argument. It was depressing watching, I’m guessing living it everyday was horrendous. There’s that saying “familiarity breeds contempt”. Gooch will never be a success at SAFC now because too many have decided he’s shite & won’t change their mind, no matter how well he does. It was a bit the opposite for Defoe at that time for me. I’d seen him do so well & have a great attitude to it falling apart.

Fuck me, even Moyes, I can’t stand the bloke, but no manager would have been able to succeed in that set up. Just Moyes did it spectacularly bad.

Didn't Roy Keane say he knew after 30 seconds he made a mistake signing Greg Halfords? I'm sure 30 seconds before Halfords signed Keane was happy to sign him.

My point is when Defoe signed he probably felt he could still do a job and wasn't finished just yet. Usually the person themselves was the last to know when their time is up.

As I posted previously Brian clough did exactly the same thing after his injury came back for a few games to

prove he couldnt do it maybe JD felt the same

As much as I loved Roy Keane, he set the tone for years of waste & poor financial management. Roy Keane should be embarrassed he spent someone else’s money & realised straight away he’d wasted it. How he can say it as some kind of badge of honour is beyond me.

As for Defoe, I don’t care how out of his depth he feels, he should have stopped until the end of the season & played the 10/15 mins we’d ask, if he was needed. Out if 7 games, how many would he actually have been needed? I’m not buying the fact he physically can’t get in the pitch, because that would have been addressed in his statement. The fact he’s signed so recently is the problem. If he’d have been here a year & thought he’d deteriorated, that’s a different story. He told us he could do a job when he signed his contact & accepted his wages. 6/7 weeks ago.

There would now be a new owner in the club, a billionaire but no he offers 2/3rds of the agreed share price.
JS don't count because KLD has a deal in place with him to cover that.
OH and CM and SD will continue to fund the club, because they both have enough to do it

This 100%. It also caused massive upheaval behind the scenes at crucial time
Whatever anybody says about Johnson abs speakman, they have flaws, let’s face it a fair few but it did feel they were working together and from sane hymn sheet
This Defoe saga became a soap opera, the ex managers (love or loath) concerns were legitimate and ultimately correct his comments ‘moving in different’ directions I think we know what he’s eluding too, let’s face it he was signed day after he was sacked

He could of still managed the odd 10 minute cameo in the 3rd division, added to fact the crucial role he could of played in dressing room off the pitch at crucial point of season, a club he loves and ‘gets’ right? His line of ‘didn’t want to prevent youngster progress by being here’, really? we’re buying that?
It’s really exposed club and who runs it and their incompetence off it

So close that Johnson didn’t travel on the team bus to or from Bolton where we lost 0-6, another example of the work they were doing together to add to other thrashings at Portsmouth, Rotherham, Sheff Wed etc and the wonderful displays at home to Lincoln and in the FA Cup to Mansfield Town etc.etc.?

So close Johnson got sacked and a costly three week pantomime ensued with Dumb and Dumber put in charge of scintillating defeats to Doncaster and Cheltenham.

Have to say I’m far from convinced by KLD though I’m willing to give the pre January model a chance if they stick to that because there were positives in the summer and previous January. Have to say though Bob, though I think KLD was clearly a big contributing factor to January's balls up, on the share issue I back him. Methven and Donald deserve to suffer and I’d love it if they suffered financially. Two not very smart smart arses driven by greed and opportunism. I hope KLD twists the knife on them and wins then sells on to someone local who makes wiser choices.

They are desperate for their pay day which has been fucked up since Charlton’s 94th minute play off final winner when their let’s flip SAFC and get rich quick scheme hit the buffers. Once that happened they had no Plan B and Charlie started slagging the fan base off on a regular basis. Lovely people…🙄
