Defoe talk-in - Roker Hotel tonight

He could have still done a job for us until the end of the season. There is either more to this or he's been a bit selfish
I cannot believe these comments , he was done for when he re-signed and he knew it, take your rose coloured glasses off , i've also read in a earlier thread "he was getting better game by game" ...he wasn't ...
In a way he has admitted it himself by retiring ...otherwise he would have kept on going if he thought he was improving .

yes there is a moral ob;ligation..they said they would put the cash in before they left..they have done that so far..putting in around £12m of their onw..they certainly should put the rest in.
My point was simple....claiming people stole money is a black and white statement...its either true or it oisnt..and it isnt true. It is also untrue to say they took the money..ellis short did that. but none of that removes the moral obligation.

So given a parachute payment is in the region of £25m you’d agree that they would be about half way there then?

And Methven has no money, and Donald doesn’t want to put it in, and Sartori is nowhere to be seen…

Can you see why the fan base is pissed off? You absolute moron

Aye we should have signed another 3 strikers

We are in league one man you clown

Keep up at the back

will grigg was top scorer in league one the season beforwe we signed him?

you are right..the club has huge cash flows issues..its been potless for a long tine..thats why the owners have put £8m in
He wasn't in L1 when we signed him. Other clubs in this league have taken top players from other L1 sides. We have not been at the races

You've spoken to him? He looked sharper in his third game (I think) when he came off the bench and O'Nien's goal came from his shot.
Mate i've watched all his games and defenders were on him in a shot , too slow now..he must have realised this after a couple of starts, maybe he thought the league quality was worse than what it really is and has found out its not,he is not for this league at his age and unfortunatley he has found out the hard way,and rather embarrass himself and ruin his legacy he has retired.

ruin him? he's never scored more than 10 in a season prior to hitting a purple patch last month
He looks a good player with a sharp brain. Scores a variety of goals. We've picked up players before who've gone on to do well. Like Lawrence & Whitehead
they could sue this baord for publishing a libel....ask the baord for the details of the poster who is making up lies about them.
given the facts are out there..its possibly a malicious libel
Is it not libel to say Ellis Short took a lot of money out of the club, when clearly he lost millions over his tenure? How are you so sure they haven't basically used smoke n mirrors with so many holding companies and grey areas. Its just never been straight up, in the same manner as the whole Tory front bench are now being exposed for financial activities. Its always just a matter of time with these types. They'll push and push, treat people like fools and think they can get away with it ad infinitum. Thatcher was the same and it imploded.

Absolutely shite talk in to be fair. A compère who didn’t dare ask any pressing questions. A main attraction who isn’t comfortable being it. A hall full of people, only half of whom could hear. A comedian who died on stage - absolutely painful to watch.

I absolutely love the bloke mind.

Anybody else going to this? We've a table of 10 booked and looking forward to it although not quite sure what to expect now he's retired. Could be some interesting questions and now he's no longer a player for us he may let out a few things. Barnes is the compere so doubt he'll ask many probing questions but the audience might.

Good chance to say ta-ra and thanks for his first spell here, hope he gets a decent reception.
Aye. If he knew he was finished and played on he'd be accused of stealing a wage. He knows he's finished and retired but he left us in the lurch.

Imagine what this place would have been like after Clough came back for just 3 games.

It was just another Grigg and Graham signing

It’s disappointing however the failures are more about not bringing in 2 strikers in the window - Defoe would have ideally been the lift for the last 15 mins , we should have had more cover for Stewart , hardly Defoes fault .
im as disappointed as anyone he’s packed in but the blame lies solely at recruitment or lack of
Get a grip
100% Defoe shouldn’t have been the one striker signing in January. If we’d have signed two, I’d have still been a bit pissed off at Defoe right now, but hopefully not concerned he’s left us short on numbers. Which is why I’m pissed off, he’s made a decision to leave us short on numbers & regardless of Janusrys failing, the club can’t act until the summer.
That's the difference. You are a supporter not a player. Would you be willing to do the same for South Shields or Blyth Spartans? If a person doesn't feel physical or mentally able to play on then there's no much you can do.

Post like this are pathetic. Crying and abusing someone because they decided to retire.
I wouldn’t have committed to them if I didn’t believe I could contribute for a short period of time. He signed because he wanted to sign, for him, not the club, cause, team, whatever. It was about him.

Physically, that should never have been a question mark for either party. Poor on both sides if it’s because his body isn’t up to it. Mentally is a completely different scenario. But there’s a wide range of that conversation ranging from the more serious end which I wouldn’t argue with to him just not feeling up to standard anymore, which isn’t an excuse. Even at 39, we’ve had far worse players play for us who weren’t good enough.
I agree he gave up from February onwards. But it wasn't the case that he was brilliant, stopped trying then brilliant again. He never got close to that form again - he was 34, was bombed out pretty quickly at Bournemouth then had a couple of years as a squad player in Scotland. Do you not think his legs went during that season and part of his 'horrendous attitude' was actually frustration at not being about to do what his mind wanted to do anymore?

Again, not saying he didn't give up - they all did.
Aye, that’s a well reasoned argument. It was depressing watching, I’m guessing living it everyday was horrendous. There’s that saying “familiarity breeds contempt”. Gooch will never be a success at SAFC now because too many have decided he’s shite & won’t change their mind, no matter how well he does. It was a bit the opposite for Defoe at that time for me. I’d seen him do so well & have a great attitude to it falling apart.

Fuck me, even Moyes, I can’t stand the bloke, but no manager would have been able to succeed in that set up. Just Moyes did it spectacularly bad.

So what was actually said? Did anybody ask him straight why he left us in the playoff run in?
Not according to Dufrais’ post
