Imagine bringing penalties into your argumentIn the second half of the season, he scored 2 penalties, 2 goals when we were already 2-0 up & one when we were already relegated. He downed tools with the rest of them.
I’ll look back on the two previous seasons fondly. Newcastle, Chelsea, Bradley Lowrey. What I’ll not take kindly to is giving up when you’re being paid £50k/£60k a week or signing for someone & deciding you don’t fancy it sux weeks later, even though there’s five weeks left. Jermain Defoe clearly signed for Jermain Defoe & not to get Sunderland promoted. It doesn’t matter how past it he is, how old he is, how he doesn’t feel as if he’s at his best, if we could have used him for 5mins before now & the end of the season he owed that to us, because he said he’d do that when he signed a contract.
Nailed the second part. Proper cringey carry on.These talk ins are generally that Bob from recently departed players .
That and pissed up wallys shouting out stupid stuff whilst he’s talking.
I think I’m more just living in the moment than the past. At this point he’s packed his bags & walked. I dont give a duck about the goal against the Mags today, I only give a fuck about going to Wembley & winning. Ian Porterfield & Bobby Kerr & all them can have my retrospective praise, because they haven’t just walked out on usI hold Defoe in very high regard. I am not sure he qualifies as a legend , in fact I don't think he does...a very good striker who's off the field character elevates him, and rightly so - brilliant.
I think Longy is right, most of the squad in the relegation season downed tools and it's with regret that I would include Defoe in that. Longy seems to feel more strongly about it, I still think he was a good servant to the club and should be looked back on favourably.
Well considering he mentioned him in his departing statement I think he doesi doubt he knows the owners name..now or then..
Give peas a chanceThat’s crazy mate they can’t just feed me peas

I’d expect you to score the penalties. Goals in that season is a good return. He fell of a cliff. What he actually accomplished in 2017 - then 2022 was horrendous from an attitude & performance.Imagine bringing penalties into your argument
He scored 15 in a shit team run by miserable defeatist Moyes
Quite incredible anyone could hit double figures in that season

I’m completely confused why you think somebody who signs a 3, maybe 4 month contact can walk out after 6 weeks & think he’s not a ****. Defoe retiring is about Defoe, not Sunderland. If you support Defoe, go for it. As a Sunderland supporter, I feel he’s let the current squad, fan base & aim for play offs down.
That happened? Chatham house rules for a football chat?Wonder if it’s like the Ellis short talk in where phones were being confiscated, still blows me mind watching safc fans grass fellow fans to bouncers as to who was recording his answers
Or the one at Steels Club with Methven and Parky where people were asked by the organisers not to ask difficult questions.Wonder if it’s like the Ellis short talk in where phones were being confiscated, still blows me mind watching safc fans grass fellow fans to bouncers as to who was recording his answers
I have been to one talk in in my life, and I agree, they are proper cringey.Nailed the second part. Proper cringey carry on.
It’s disappointing however the failures are more about not bringing in 2 strikers in the window - Defoe would have ideally been the lift for the last 15 mins , we should have had more cover for Stewart , hardly Defoes fault .I’m completely confused why you think somebody who signs a 3, maybe 4 month contact can walk out after 6 weeks & think he’s not a ****. That's the difference. You are a supporter not a player. Would you be willing to do the same for South Shields or Blyth Spartans? If a person doesn't feel physical or mentally able to play on then there's no much you can do.It didn’t have to be a sham. This is where the club comes in. If we’d have signed another serious striker & Defoe as a bonus, f***ing great. Maybe a bit financially extravagant, but y’know. He should never, ever, have been our January window striker signing. The club fucked up by falling for it all, the majority of fans fucked up for raising the pressure to sign him. If I said it was 75/25 in favour of the signing I’d be under estimating.
I’ve said it before since he retired, but if there’s not a great excuse that hasn’t been made public he’s a twat because he’s dropped everyone in it. If Sunderland would let me come on for 10mins a match & try & help out, I’d pay them. I’d play for the team & cause, not my own agenda. I’d probably contribute more than Defoe did.
Played wingback a few times.
I've been to loads over the years and the best ones were the ones Denis Smith and Viv Buzby used to do.I have been to one talk in in my life, and I agree, they are proper cringey.
God i bet thats was delightfulI've been to loads over the years and the best ones were the ones Denis Smith and Viv Buzby used to do.
The worst one was Phil Parkinson in the Sports Bar. I think it cost a tenner and Frankie Francis was compare. A bit of non descript patter for 40 minutes then there was an interval. Champion, get the beers in.... except it wasn't an interval - the bastard thing was finished! Crap!
The club certainly carry some of the blame. But given what we assume he will be being paid, another striker wasn’t likely as wellIt’s disappointing however the failures are more about not bringing in 2 strikers in the window - Defoe would have ideally been the lift for the last 15 mins , we should have had more cover for Stewart , hardly Defoes fault .
im as disappointed as anyone he’s packed in but the blame lies solely at recruitment or lack of
