Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Most of the news reports we are getting seem to be fairly consistent in their description of the Russian military as an organisational shambles. Although the Russian Army is big it appears to have more than its fair share of poorly trained and equipped conscripts who are more of a liability than anything else.

First of all I don't think the Russian military would be able to cope in the very unlikely event that thousands were to join up. And secondly the generational demographic in Russia of those who are of military age is surprisingly quite small. They don't have the man power resources that the Red Army had in WWII.

They've hired 40,000 mercenaries from Syria and Lebanon. I expect this will be the next phase of the war.

Don't know how true or accurate the picture is but it seems like the Russian troops are on the verge of being surrounded

this is an update from a lad who seems to have some contacts in Ukraine and has had decent info previously:

"Fighting still ongoing in NW Kiev. However, the Ukrainian claim that they had 10,000 Russian soldiers surrounded in a pocket including the towns of Irpin, Bucha and Hostomel seems to have been exaggerated.
Ukrainian forces control Moshchun and Makariv and they are applying pressure on Borodyanka. But the Russian supply roads are still in Russian hands and Russian forces appear not to have been trapped or boxed-in."

the news on the ship strike is becoming clearer as the day goes on...

That's a hell of a lot it would represent 25% of Assads armed forces who are fighting a Civil War. His opponents would be delighted to see that many of his troops disppearing from that battelfield.

Although 40,000 have it seems signed up in Syria the last reports were of only 150 arriving in Russia a week ago. Obviously Assad is beholding to the Russians for their help so getting his troops to fill in a form to show willing is one thing - sending them over to the Ukraine is quite another.

The Russians will nevertheless be pleased that the story helps to put pressure on the Ukranians & may make them give in. Personally I don't see 40K Syrian fighters turning up or the Ukranians packing it in. If they do show up look out for a sudden violent end to Assads regime.

yep, US intelligence said they've seen no evidence of large numbers of either mercenaries entering russia or reinforcements from elsewhere in russia as yet.
