Silverwood

Looks like Harrison is staying

From Dobell's latest article
"One man who will be going nowhere, however, is Tom Harrison. The ECB chief executive has seen colleagues, including the former chair, resign or be sacked in recent months, but has retained his position. It might be noted that Harrison is due to receive a significant bonus from the ECB in the coming weeks."

Beyond corrupt

I've defdned Root recently, not because I dont think he has been poor over last year

he has

but I think people have amnesia and forget about all the serieshe has won previously and forget about the bigger issues inbatting etc that he cant control

However

Giles and Silverwood both go, not sure Root should stay personally

the fact the players want him to stay for me is a reason why he shouldnt

there is always someone else

pick an XI then pick a captain
Edit: Also sorry I am blabbing on

I think Covid and 17 tests in a year is amassive reason but when your senior batsman, Burns, Root, Stokes, Buttlerdont score any runs in the Ashes, the coach cant be blamed forthat

these are lads who have all played 30 tests

you cn point reasons to why each one has struggled, but at end of day its downto them
Atherton got it right: "there being nobody else obvious" is a poor excuse to keep on a failing captain. They said the same to him, yet Stewart stepped in and did no worse a job.

Whenever I've heard Broad speak on the game, as a pundit, he's always been very eloquent and knowledgable, more so than JR's "we thought mebbe" crack. There's a concern about whether he's good enough to hold down an automatic place on current form, but I'd give him a series to prove himself.

What is a good excuse though for keeping Root though, is that the failing of the team in the Ashes was batsman not scoring runs, that was very much the main reason imo and not the performance of the captain.

Just my opinion but another captain in that series would not have made a scrap of difference because of the above.

I agree the captaincy is way over played like

You don’t need genius fields like. It means fuck all

I like root and I don’t think he’s been a bad captain but I really really dislike the reason for keeping him

Of course it is, if you look at the good sides in history, they have been good because they have the best players.

Players win matches not captains

Where Root has fallen badly short along with Silverwood in the Ashes series was their decision making as far as team selection and tactics on the pitch.
Root as a test captain for more than 60 matches and on his 3rd Ashes must have had a major input into those decisions.
He is keeping his job as there is literally nobody to take over the position.

All I’d say is he did pretty well initially

People will deny it but he did

It’s a weird paradox but we were top of the test championship as late as the 2nd test in India

He capitulated afterwards and made bad errors but in his defence we played so so much more cricket in the pandemic

The bubbles won’t of helped the cricket but I think he deserved to go mainly due to the shit decisions he and root seemed to make in pretty much every test. Whether it was selection, decisions at the toss or tactics during the match we seemed to make a hash of something basic in every single test match.

Yeah I agree he had to go been awful last year decision making

I just think people forget series we win, like they don’t count or someit

6 away tests won in a row or someit? First test india had lost at home since 2012

He started to lose it when he stopped picking a spinner.

But England playing 17 tests in a year including india away and Australia way

It’s just Scandalous like, really boils my blood

Just sacrificed the players to make cash essentially

Wholeheartedly agree with every word.
