I’m quite suprised that not one set of fans we’ve played against has made a big deal over human rights etc. I presume it just sort of bypasses majority of football fans.

Is what happens there awful, of course it is, by our standards, but to compare it to what we experience in the west is pure folly.

You can't just flick a switch, it took 200 years for our monarchy to finally move from absolute to constitutional, why should we expect different elsewhere. Even after our centuries of societal development we didn't outlaw the execution of minors until 1908. As Saudi was being formed 1932/33, we were administering India and at that same time, under our governance, average life expectancy in India was 28 years old, twenty fecking eight. Women couldn't vote here until 1928. In my lifetime (yeah I'm old) black people couldn't even get on a fecking bus in the USA.

We're not that great ourselves.

We have to engage and guide and mentor, not use the big stick otherwise we see what happens in that part of the world.

Saudi Arabia has been around for the blink of an eye in historical terms in its societal development.

Meanwhile in this beacon of loveliness we call the UK, we have circa 3000 foodbanks and 200-300 folks a day die of Covid due to government mishandling, at least the 81 who were executed had a fair trial according to the laws of THAT land, our covid victims not so much.

The Tories links with the Saudi’s are abhorrent from Johnson now on his knees begging a despot who is arguably worse than Putin to buy his country’s oil and invest in the UK to Teresa May’s husband, Phillip, selling arms to the Saudi’s that have allegedly been used to kill thousands of Yemeni’s including thousands of children.

The other irony of Johnson having discussions with the Saudi’s is that MBS is known to be very friendly with Putin. Of course there is also the fact that Johnson and May, and other Tories (there are some awful characters in other political parties too but the current Government’s blatant courting of wealthy Russians and Saudi’s, often including alleged personal gain, stinks of immorality and greed) have recently criticised Putin and the Saudi’s (who killed/murdered 81 people last weekend) despite their pathetic obvious realtionships with them-absolute hypocrisy.

I’d personally suspect the Saudis will sell it in about 10 years anyway. They’ll want to flip it at some point for a huge profit. Are they likely to be booted out or sanctioned by a government that is begging them for oil and trading billions of pounds with them in that time. Not bloody likely. Unless they do something daft and decide to invade a country with white folks in it
