Well bollocks. Survived enough drugs to kill 5 people then dies in hip surgery. What an absolute pisser.

You could understand it when it was someone like Pat Patterson or Lou Thez. They were 79 and 86 respectively. Or Killer Kowalski who was 81. Greg Valentine is 70 and hopefully will live to his 90s. But Scott was 63. That is no age compared to others who have passed. He has been taken tragically so early. He still had so many years to live and despite having so many memories behind him he had so many to come. Ok as a wrestling superstar he had retired but as a person he was nowhere near finished. All the wrestling world is deeply saddened by the loss of a great superstar who I think is among the greatest never to hold the WWE Heavyweight title.

Razor was one of my favourites growing up so this one hurts. Very few guys can say one moment in their career changed the business, but he could.

This is a sad news. Feels weird to say but despite how much of an impact he had on the business felt like he underachieved somewhat.
Guy was a very good wrestlers had a great look, was good on the mic and had a brain for the business but personal problems got in the way of him really making that next step up.
I do think if he'd stayed in WWE he would have become a champion, it's a bit of travesty he never won the title on WCW when lesser guys did (and I'm not just talking the joke ones like Arquette and Russo who should never have been allowed to).
That said forming the NWO and his ladder match with Shawn alone are wrestling legacy that 95% of wrestlers would love to achieve.
Seems a bit unfair that he managed to get himself right then a fall and subsequent hip replacement has been his demise but hopefully those last few years of being clean, inducted into HOF, hopefully spending more time with family and friends were some happy times for the fella.

The thing with Scott Hall is, he was never booked in a way that made him look unbeatable or a dominant World Champion, because he was so keen to put other people over.
He was riding on a crest of a wave and let Sean Waltman beat him. Steve Austin walked because they wanted him to put Brock Lesnar over. Scott put the business over himself.

He didn't need to win. He wasn't over becasue of his matches.

I wonder how it would have went down if he hadn't left WWE. Obviously both WCW and WWF would have been completely different but would have been interesting to see how he would have been pushed if he had stayed.
You'd imagine he'd feature heavy with Shawn and HHH being two of the main guys for the next decade but he was also one of the guys who got on well with Bret and the rest of the roster from what I've read so might have been good for them to have someone who could be a bit of a middleman in the back.
He would have won the title, I have no doubt. 96/96 when you had Bret, Taker, Shawn trade the title and Sid jump in, I think he would have had a run somewhere during that before Austin was made.
I doubt WWE would have let him get in as much of a personal mess as he was allowed to in WCW either, though lots of their wrestlers have had substance abuse issues they usually reeled them in when they felt they were getting out of hand. WCW just give them the green light to do as they pleased as they were essentially running the company themselves.
Even when he came back in 02/03, it felt a shame he couldn't get himself back in a fit state then as could have been an interesting run with NWO in WWE but it fizzled out because him and Nash weren't fit for the job and Hogan was too over to be a heel. Further attempts to keep it going were pretty shit and just grasping at straws. Gotta think if he had been able to get help then he could have had a decent run to end his career.

Out of all the wrestling deaths, this one hurt. The guy was like a hero of mine back in the 90s. It probably hasn't helped that my Dad passed away 3 weeks ago from having a heart attack either. My Dad always referred to Scott Hall as "Razor Malone". 
But I always loved Razor Ramon, I just loved his bad guy persona, the attitude, the cockiness, the swagger. He was the attitude era before the attitude era was a thing. A solid worker and a fantastic gimmick. He made it acceptable to cheer the bad guy.
And I always remember as a teen watching Nitro in the night Scott Hall showed up. This was back in the day when Nitro followed Cartoon Network at 8pm on Sky. I honestly believed that the WWF were invading WCW. It was a class time to be a wrestling fan.
It's a shame he wasn't able to fully shake off his demons and it was good to see DDP et al get Hall clean and on the right path, but I had heard he had relapsed at some point?
