Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

I said on an earlier post. That map doesn't make sense. It doesnt work like that map shows. Even Ukraine have accepted losses of regions and cities.
As ever, the truth almost certainly lies somewhere between this and the maps showing Russia controlling just about the entire Black Sea coastline and huge swathes of the North & East of Ukraine.

Ukraine is literally awash with weapons. Not sure if there is anything else they can fire these at because although not all find their target, this is many times the number of tanks Russia will ever put in Ukraine.

And this is only the latest batch.

There is no requirement that an anti-tank weapon be fired at a tank. Pretty much any vehicle will do, and some of them (particularly Javelins) can also be used against slow-and-low airborne targets (helicopters about to land or just taking off, basically).

another good article. this one on why the russian's have yet to gain full air superiority, or even committed their full air capability to the war.

Was reading a guy the other day a d he was saying it’s really important the Ukrainians can continue to do this. If they can’t counter then they are basically already accepting they have lost and are just buying time.

Particularly around Kharkiv, Kiyv etc… it’s vital they don’t just keep losing ground as otherwise they will be pushed further in and encircled. At which point their supply lines are gone. At that point it’s just do you run out of weapons and ammo first or do the civilian casualties and living conditions from being under siege mean you have to surrender.

Ukraine’s tactics seem to be working very well but if they degrade Russian forces in a big battle it’s vital they then push out whilst they have the upper hand and before the Russians regroup.

Keep supply corridors open to keep food, weapons, reinforcements etc… able to get in

I think Russia just want them to give up.

That’s why they’re targeting civilians, so the people will just put their hands up and surrender.

As for targeting civilians, what happens in the international courts agree to it being war crimes? What happens to Russia? More sanctions?

In my mind this conflict is going to be never ending until Nato countries are dragged in which of course presents its own problems. The town in the post you reference is the size of Newton Aycliffe, probably smaller.

No, war crimes are crimes. Individuals can be prosecuted and jailed. As a practical matter, that individual has to somehow be kicked out of power or otherwise given up by their country - but see what happened after the Yugoslavia war, for example.

If he’s found guilty (not just him I’m presuming as his generals will have to have given the orders too) then what has he got to lose?

This might sound harsh again, but where do we draw the line? I’m not questioning that we need to help, but are we financially killing the west to help here?
Why not just go to war?

10 billion equates to 1% of US military spend, or 1% of US NATO contribution, or 20% of US foreign aid budget, and less than they contribute to UN.
They can afford it for quite a while, even before Europe chips in.

Do they really think anyone believes them at this point?

Sure Ukraine also has it's propaganda but Russia literaly have done nothing but lie since the conflict began, why do they think anyone will believe them now. I know it's mainly to brainwash their own people but shit like this is trying to pull the wool over everyone else's eyes.

War ends the world as we know it. I feel deeply uneasy though that this is indeed the situation we are sleepwalking towards. I hope and pray everyday Vladimir Putin dies. His death saves the planet IMO.
