Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

I wonder why he's picking out the UK. It may be because we simply don't matter as much as France, Germany and the US. In which case there is a positive way to look at this: he wants to call out the West, but doesn't want to pick on one of the big boys.
He didn't mention the UK. That ASB account is a pro-russian troll account followed by thousands of bots.

A US senator has sparked outrage after he called on Russian people to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.

Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator for South Carolina, said the only way Russia's invasion of Ukraine ends is "for somebody in Russia to take this guy out".

"Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military," he said on Twitter, referencing Marcus Junius Brutus, who took a leading role in the assassination of Julius Ceaser in 44 BC and Stauffenberg, the German army officer who unsuccessfully attempted to kill Adolf Hitler.

I spoke to my Russian friend for the first time since the invasion started. Very much a mixed bag of thoughts from him. On the one hand he thinks the war is stupid and a massive failure of diplomacy and he feels sorry for the Ukrainians, however he does believe that Biden and the US have pushed Putin into a corner and are behind closed doors very pleased that there is a war so they can be more aggressive in their foreign policy towards Russia. He doesn't think Putin was asking for much before the war (i.e. Ukrainian neutrality) but that Biden and the US don't care and just want to get to Putin anyway they can. His end comment was the only winner in this war is China.

Seems to me that the Anti-US sentiment is just ingrained in a fair % of Russians. Hopefully more and more can be talked into realising its not about the US, its about how much of a massive dickbag Putin is. More rational leadership has its benefits, not the least not invading neighbouring countries on perceived slights, egotistical geopolitical posturing and historical bollocks. All this shit resulting in the death and suffering of innocent people!

Good Post. Exactly what I'm hearing from Russian pals.

The levels of stupidity have been immense during this conflict. This idiot, the news and the Ukraine leader telling us there could have been another Chernobyl cos of a fire at the nuclear station. Other idiots calling for no fly zones.

He could have a point. NATO and the west have made Putin out to be 100% at fault. He’s spent years with Ukraine on the border. So why attack now?
Something provoked him

Some poster on here said days back (about Truss) that in these scenarios govt officials should only use proper govt channels for interviews & stay off social media.

There's always a chance as much as we admire them, that the Ukraine govt got out of their box a bit too much for Russian comfort? Dunno.

Sadly Graham is an idiot

Right I see.

So why didn’t he pile his money into known Russophile and socialist Jeremy Corbyn and instead bought the Conservative party?

By your own logic that means he must see Corbyn as a bigger threat than Johnson.

Jingoism and xenophobia. It’s all they have.
But but but…. It was Russia who rigged the vote for Trump

Since Biden has been in he’s fucked the Middle East again. Hes also overseeing Europe taking a kicking

He’s doing a better job “making America great again” by watching the rest of the world burn.
It’s easy to knock others off their perch rather than fight for a spot there yourself

I'm for military action against Russia but I think it's pathetic the way the media takes glee almost in Russian planes being brought down .....someone's husband ,father, son .....

The loss of life on both sides Is no time for rejoice
Those plans etc when they drop their bombs and fire their missiles kill innocent people. So for every Russian pilot killed that probably ten fold Ukrainian men, women and children not killed.
