Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

No different to most fleeing Syria. In fact, I would imagine given the wealth of Damascus etc that some Syrian refugees had higher skilled and higher paid jobs than any of the Ukrainians.

I don't know the demographics of Ukranian refugees, but I was involved when the North East took in Sudanese refugees. The people who escaped Sudan were people with money and passports, people who had travelled and spoke foreign languages.

There was lots of anxiety about how the NHS would cope with the additional demand for services, but so many of them had medical degrees that the NHS ended up with more Drs than they needed. There were so many sudanese and somalis working for the NHS in the North East that they held their AGM in Gateshead because it was such a short journey home

Countries who are generous taking in refugees get a benefit from them, not a burden, sadly we are too caught up in our own anxieties about foreigners to see that

No way after this Russia will attempt to go further than Ukraine.

That 40 mile convoy would have NATO pilots and drone operators licking their lips, he would lose thousands of men and equipment from NATO air attacks before the troops even got there

He’s already lost a lot more than he is accounting for, he’s came across a rough and determined enemy the fact is his conscripts have struggled with farmers and ordinary blokes.

I don't think there is any doubt at all that Russia had a part in Brexit. I suspect they have a significant part in pushing for a Scottish independence referendum. They will have had a significant part in Trumps rise to power and possibly Trump directly.

Theres zero doubt in my mind.
You just have to think about for a second to see how all of that creates division and why that would benefit the likes of Putin. To deny it is just mental IMO.

Moldova is not in NATO. And it’s an easier version of Ukraine - it has an eastern breakaway already supported by Russia and is a much smaller country with not much of an army so taking it all is easier. Putin wants Chisinău, no doubt about that. And he will take it if not opposed.

I get iodine strips on my toes after the chiropodist has cut into my skin to stop infection, what do the tablets do ?
They protect your thyroid from radioactive iodine uptake which damages it. I seem to remember people taking it in the 1950s after the problems at the Windscale reactor when there was the Strontium 90 release and a fire. There were concerns about radioactive material contaminating free school milk but I was at primary school at the time so probably didn’t understand what was happening.

It should have them licking their lips now. Today.

Are you Russian? Black is white ,majority is the minority etc. Sad .What is a small majority ?

REMAONER ???
I’m not Russian but can be pedantic. The majority was 1269501 from figures I’m aware of. 33551983 people voted. 12949258 people eligible to vote did not do so. As such far more people did not vote for Brexit than did. Really that’s irrelevant though, it was a democratic vote and the opportunity to vote was there. Context is always needed on majority though. It was in relative terms a small majority. No point arguing though as I actually agree it was a democratically voted majority.

So essentially you are saying the red lines are just countries we think are worth saving.

For me, defending the free world is the red line. Putin has attacked the free world and I think the free world should collectively respond.

We will agree to disagree.
I'm not saying where the red lines are. I don't get to make that call, that's our esteemed world leaders job. Opinions are opinions and not the reality, whether you or I agree with them or not and there is a lot of grey between the black and white.

You’re assuming they think they would be challenged (Above funding and supplying defensive weapons to the Nations forces) and or would still continue to be challenged if he threatened to use nukes

Not sure the rules and red lines are clear.

There is no rule stopping the UK or any country providing ground or military support to Ukraine.

And as for red lines, is the red line NATO membership or how western and rich a country is?

Sweden, Switzerland and Ireland are not in NATO. So to use a hypothetical example, if those three countries were being bombed to shreds by Putin would we still not cross the ‘red line’ and help non-NATO members.

If Dublin is under siege and being wiped off the map would posters here and the UK population be saying “they aren’t in NATO, it’s the rules and it’s not our fight”?
Fair point that mind.

The minute he steps foot in a NATO country the planes would be up and heading for him.

Nuclear threat or not NATO would respond and there is no way his army could cope
