No different to most fleeing Syria. In fact, I would imagine given the wealth of Damascus etc that some Syrian refugees had higher skilled and higher paid jobs than any of the Ukrainians.

Whilst I do agree with this, and I don't want to get too political, would that not also mean going to war with China (over their treatment of the Uighurs) and no doubt many other countries? I really wish we could do more. To be honest their army (from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't even pretend to have knowledge of it) looks a bit of a joke. Nowt would please me more than us just driving them back with their tails between their legs if they could get their tanks out of the mud long enough to reverse. Its not realistic though, we'd constantly be at war and there'd probably have been world war 3 already. I'm not saying we should or shouldn't be doing more, couldn't be more of a layperson on this and got no clue so I'll leave it to those who understand geopolitics, but I can see that having a red line like that could be incredibly dangerous.

China is a little different in that it’s an internal policy of oppression, rather than an invasion of another country.

Most invasions are one dodgy regime invading disputed territory in another dodgy regime, with no real threat to anyone else let alone an existential threat to the free world.

In my life time I cannot recall another instance of a large autocratic country invading a large independent democratic country and causing such an existential threat to the free world.

The fact that it might take WW3 to stop Putin shows the scale of the threat. The same way it took WW2 to stop Hitler. I am glad WW2 happened and Hitler was stopped.

To use a maligned football phrase, if we just let leaders of massive countries invade large democracies unopposed then for me, game’s gone.

Very difficult psychologically for the occupation troops. Constant threat of being a victim of an insurgency but at the same time the longer they spend and closer they get to the population they also tend to build an affinity. Especially in other clips the Ukrainians have been kind to them

You might be right there. And most of the south coast.

Once they move west along the coast to Odessa they then control three sides of Ukraine along (Belarus border, Russia border, and Black Sea coast line).

They can then move in on Kyiv and starve it out. Putin will be resolute in not wanting to destroy Kyiv as the historical buildings there are the birthplace of Russia and he will want them intact.

You can see how this is going to end. Ukraine effectively gone with a demilitarised zone between Poland / the west.
