Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Good article in The Times this morning citing an investigative website (Agentstvo) with sources close to the Kremlin, suggesting that Putin had concealed his plans to actually invade Ukraine from the cabinet and officials were not prepared for the punishing scale of international sanctions. The government was only aware that Putin planned to recognise the two seperatist regions in Eastern Ukraine and only expected relatively light sanctions

A source was quoted as saying "This is fucked up, they are out of their f***ing minds". Many government officials were ready to resign in protest but fear this would be seen as treason. "Resignation leads to a prison camp"

How can the West best encourage an attempt at removing Putin because that's the only way Russia can take a step backwards.

It's so depressing.
And frightening. It shows that even if Russia are defeated, Putin gone and a normal government in Russia it will take a whole generation for the the country to start understanding the truth and undoing the brainwashing.

These people. Heroes. Risking their lives for the free world, knowing that death is better than living under Putin.

Puts the lack of action by NATO to shame.

That’s probably both alarming and positive if true.

It suggests that Putin is acting alone and divorced from even his closest allies at this stage if he didn’t even tell his cabinet. It looks that way anyway on the videos of him. Which might mean there could be a growing plot internally to take him out. It could also mean he is increasingly isolated and paranoid which would make him a very dangerous man.

So putins asked for no more sanctions eh and to work with their neighbours in his recent talks saying he doesn’t want to make relations with the west more difficult (according to the bbc)

Shows these sanctions are working then and that he (hopefully) is up for discussions.

As basic and daft as this sounds, a £200m reward/bounty for the person or people that kill Putin might be something that saves the world from nuclear war.

Brave people. Would you do the same if it was UK?

You have to be careful what videos you click on on Twitter. Even ones posted by journalists. Just accidentally clicked on one from a defence journalist of a Russian convoy that had been ambushed and it’s beyond horrific

Reminds you of the true nature of what’s happening on the ground
Yeah I was scrolling through Reddit randomly and came across stuff I wish I hadn't, absolutely horrifying 😪😭

President Putin has warned those opposing Russia's actions in Ukraine "not to exacerbate the situation" by imposing more restrictions on his country.

The Russian president was speaking at a government meeting broadcast on the state-controlled Rossiya 24 news channel.

"We have no ill intentions against our neighbours," Putin claims.

And he says his government sees "no need" for its neighbours to take further action that will "make our relations worse".

"I think everyone must think about how to normalise relations, co-operate normally and develop relations normally," he adds.

It comes as to consider how to maintain pressure on Russia.

Putin also repeats his previous claim that all action taken by the Russian military so far has been made "exclusively in response to some unfriendly actions against the Russian Federation".

How can he say that with a straight face.

I think I would. There would be nothing to lose because living in a world run by tyrants would be worse than fighting and being killed.

If I didn’t have close family and a partner I would probably be on way to Ukraine as well. It’s a global fight for the free world vs tyranny.

I shouldn't but

Cooperate normally!

This seems a crack in his usual demeanour to me. And the first time he’s acknowledged the sanctions

Yes. No alternative. Kill as many as I could until my demise.
