Abramoviches Statement. Cant help but think he has been very decent here and has to be taken on face value.
If we take it at face value (and presumably we have to, given people would know if the funds didn't go where he said they will) then putin should be very worried. I thought abramovich was one of his closest allies, hell abramovich has bought yachts and all sorts for him. I don't think abramovich has suddenly become a lovely lad, but I can easily imagine that he knows which way the wind is blowing and doesn't want to be on Putin's side at the end of it. If he's thinking it, presumably other oligarchs are as well. And if they're thinking it, you'd have to imagine there'll be people on the military aiming to overthrow him, especially if they can be the golden boy for some of the richest people on earth. Probably an overly optimistic take but so fuck, we need a bit of positivity

My hopes too

He’s gone as far as he probably could in the circumstances in his statement and act. There’s a tipping point where he’s acknowledged there’s a war, and is making retributions but avoided openly criticising Putin or Russia where he faces the risk of execution and his family being put in danger.

My first contact with you, further back in this thread, didn't start well.
However, you are bang on with inherited instinct, and nurtured feelings.
We are primeval in our desire to protect "ours"
We, as humans, will continue to evolve mentally and emotionally, but that instinct will always be there.
Doesn’t matter mate. Take each post as you find is the best way. Certainly no animosity here. Feel free to disagree.

I totally agree. Their lives as they know it are being taken away. They’re being forced out of their country to beg another to have mercy and give them a home. Well done them for staying and fighting for their families.

I think it is a huge statement calling it a war and giving the money. He has nailed his colours to the mast.

Aye. I’m hopeful that this is a sign that the oligarch class in Russia has had enough, and doesn’t relish the prospect of crippling, never-ending sanctions just so Vlad can build some sort of imaginary “hard man” legacy.

They’ve all built fortunes from the end of the cold war, and enjoy all of the trappings/luxuries - and crucially stability - of Russia becoming part of the rules based international community. They surely can’t love the idea of losing all of that stability, their lavish lifestyles in the West, and most of their assets, just so Putin can play out some delusional power game.

As many commentators have said, if the Russian billionaire class decides that Putin is a liability, then he’s toast.

Abramovich is connected at the very highest level of Russian oligarch circles. They obviously communicate with eachother. No way is he a lone voice amongst them here.

You’re barking up the wrong tree trying to get a reaction out of me, you’re by far the most dull and attention seeking poster on this forum and I’m absolutely zero interested in talking to you
I’m not bothered what your reaction is. I’d prefer it if I learned something from what you say but I don’t think I will. Nobody will. You’ve contributed nothing to the thread.

woah there you got a link about not detectable as opposed to not being able to be shot down? Plus i'm not sure they have that many

They travel too fast and too low for traditional early warning systems to detect. Kaliningrad to London at 5X the speed of sound is about 12 minutes. I'd imagine a 50mt warhead wouldn't leave much of London standing

:lol::lol::lol::lol:I identify with Russia???? No, I don't identify with Putin or his regime. I like Russia as a country and find it fascinating with a shit ton of culture and history. I also don't indentify with Ukraine although I do have a soft spot for it for the same reasons as I like Russia.

This do we let him invade x,y,z country next is cropping up on a regular basis...do you really think that he'd just carry on to the next country without stopping and trying to regroup? The difference is he's got nothing to regroup with, his economy is now fucked, he can't trade, his own people aren't happy with him, the world is against him, the world has time to get measures in place for other countries. Its just not as simple as saying he'll go here next. This will be his last hurrah, guaranteed.

Germany engaged in a continent wide war of conquest in WW2 - there were lots of reasons as to why, but one of those most important ones was they were cutoff from the western world - no access to raw materials or western finance - this lack of western finance meant they became a bandit country, they pillaged their victims for their raw materials, and stole their gold reserves to fund their purchases from the few states that would still trade with them

so hopefully you'll forgive me (and others) if we dont feel like trusting Russia at present to not move straight onto the next country

Bit late to the party on this one but those that were against:

North Korea, Russia, Belarus, Eritrea & Syria…

Although some of the abstentions are telling in their own way too.

If you’re at a party, and you find yourself on the table at the back with Belarus, Syria, Eritrea and North Korea, then it has to dawn on you that you’re a grossly unpopular monument to twatishness.
