The way Syed conducted himself in the midst of the greatest display of wilful ignorance is absolutely remarkable. They were attempting all sorts of whataboutery and lesser orators would have risen their voice or been forced down a route of compativeness but Syed kept his composure with sound reasoning - a tremendous watch.

Thanks for posting it.
Former England men’s number one table tennis player anarl apparently.

She married into money. You seem to be the only person on the planet unaware of this.

I haven't read any of the details, but I don't see how this could possibly be allowed to happen, to keep in line with charity law. Charities have to show that their decisions are made in the best interests of their charitable purposes - helping people in need. How does owning a football club do that?

Yes, many charities run business operations (charity shops, etc), but that all still have one objective - to raise money for the cause. I would assume, therefore, that they would need to show the Charity Commission that they would be taking on an asset that would help them to meet their objectives financially. As Chelsea FC recorded a £150m loss last year, (and, I think, there are loans outstanding to Abramovich of £1bn+) that would take some sleight of hand!

Just seems a complete non-starter, charity law-wise. But surely Chelsea would have looked into that and had at least a hint of a plan to get round the barriers they face?
A professional football club as a charity doesn't seem a likely qualifier for charitable status, though fee paying schools do, so my 'common sense' * understanding stands to be proven wrong.

*I loathe Chelsea too so ...

Apparently the Swiss bloke is aged 86, so buying Chelsea would clearly be a long term project for him!

It seems that Abramovich is having a fire sale of his foreign based assets before they are seized.

Can't see how he can sell Chelsea as he has been sanctioned..

I’m of the same thinking. Plus it’s all really shady. Nothing crooked about it at all….
I watched a Labour MP, Chris Bryant, asking the same question yesterday as a matter of urgency. I'm of the opinion that RA will not be able to transfer/sell or even market the club to the Swiss or Americans due to these sanction.. If he does, there will be serious repercussions for any government who allows this.
