Direct involvement matey won’t happen

A few days ago, I’d have agreed completely. Now, where is the line drawn in Putin’s mind if we are direct in our involvement or we supply hardware which has the same effect? I think the balance will shift over the next few days if this doesn’t end soon.

As opposed to just sitting back and letting him obliterate ukraine and whoever else next?

#standuptobullies

I’m not denying that but we have learnt in hindsight how close we actually came during the Cold War to a major nuclear exchange. Stanislav Petrov, Cuban missile crisis etc… decisions by individuals played a massive part in avoiding it by the tiniest of margins.

The West has to make an assessment on Putin’s mental state and what he is potentially capable of

What’s the difference (in Russias eye) with supplying everything they need and encouraging civilians to go fight against the Russians but we aren’t sending our military?

That's the EU not NATO. It's the yanks, in particular, who Russia don't like and want to stay away.

I’ll be honest, the church was a genuinely nice touch.

What else has he done? The visa thing is so bad it renders pretty much most other things redundant

Him and Biden have been pushing to exclude Russia from SWIFT

He's been unequivocal in his condemnation of Putin and we've been helping the Ukrainian military for months to prepare for this invasion

He's not put a foot wrong so far

We need to put our political biases to one side here

The EU have been f***ing brilliant too

By not directly getting involved and applying financial pressure it has to be putting huge pressure on Putin from within.

With an open international invitation for volunteers it gives nations a great way to join in without officially doing it too.

Loving the protests inside Russia right now. Fingers crossed!

I can't believe how pathetic FIFA's response is like. Absolute joke.
I am assuming it's because they make decisions so slowly that they basically agreed this 4-5 days ago and so now when it is announced it is totally out of date. If it's not that, then it's a joke.

The pilots just need to join the Ukrainian Foreign Legion and technically Nato wouldn't be involved?? I wouldn't be surprised if they get a few volunteers.

Pavel Podvig, Senior Researcher in the WMD Programme at UNIDIR. His current research focuses on nuclear disarmament, arms control and nuclear security:

"This all makes me nervous. Kremlin has no good off-ramps at this point and is looking at an existential threat to the current state. The thing to do at this point is for everyone, literally everyone - US, NATO, NWS, NAS, NNWS, TPNW - to say forcefully and clearly that a threat of nuclear weapons is absolutely unacceptable. ABSOLUTELY. No nuclear dick-waving, please. This might get serious. The French foreign minister's response was exactly the wrong one. You don't outnuclear Putin in this situation"
