Russian army has historically always been a weird creature. Grunts getting sacrificed with abandon..right back to the days of the Tsars. The German commanders were astounded in WW2 how carelessly Russian soldiers were sacrificed for little strategic gain.

Friend of ours has realities in the Donesk region - Russian speaking people. Anyhow the Russian army comes through and tells two men - regular civilians - that they are now being cashiered into the Russian army. No training, no wish to fight fellow Ukrainians but tag, you're now it. What sort of fighting force does such daft things.

Unfortunately, I think the military part still carries too much weight to not class them as a superpower. Otherwise the response to Ukraine would be entirely different.

Not exactly the same, but I posted earlier in the thread about Ukrainian police also knocking on a young lad’s door and saying “you’re off to fight the Russians”.

He obviously had no wish to do so or he’d have been volunteering earlier.

This whole f***ing thing is just sickening really. I sit here with my little four old asleep on me and cannot help but feel just shit with a big pit in my stomach for all them poor sods on their own and families across that country bricking it because they have no f***ing idea what the night will bring. This is just senseless. The people fighting with no training and nothing but an AK are just courageous in the extreme. Struggle with the thought of kids like mine scared shitless and maybe being hurt tonight.
