Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

A captured Russian major…

Apparently the translation is along the lines of:

They say “welcome to Ukraine”, ask him what’s he doing in their country and he replies with “I don’t know”

As the thread says how can a major not know what he’s doing invading a foreign, sovereign nation.

Really find this hard to watch. While I don’t think for a minute he didn’t know what he was doing there the bloke is quite clearly shitting it.

China has to play both sides here.

People are praising China for abstaining on the security council resolution, but China's vote was meaningless, because Russia were always going to veto the resolution.

China have lapped up the plaudits for doing something that cost them nothing, and only helped them gain.

Negotiation between Russia and Ukraine, when Russia are the aggressors will only lead to Ukraine losing either some territory or some control over their own affairs.

If China was REALLY on the side of peace and the sovereignty of the Ukraine, they'd be urging Putin to leave Russia.

Instead, they urge him to negotiate which

a) helps their image with the West - "Ooh China abstained and wanted negotiation, how good of them"

b) helps Putin because he invades another country, kills civilians and ends up gaining either territory or influence.
China only wants one thing, to sell to all corners of the world, without exception. They will sit on the fence all the way, and will trade with whoever is left at the end of this war, it's all they do and all they want to do, nothing else matters to them but money.

It's not a partisan issue that people defend their countries from invasion by whatever means they can.

Look, I'm American. I hate that Iraqis resorted to IEDs and the results it caused, including to people I know personally. But I don't for a second blame them for doing it.

I think this is simply crossed wires, I have obviously not done the best job at explaining what I mean, I agree with everything you say here. Everyone loses in war, even the winner.

Yup I don't like anything like that, the bloke was clearly terrified. I hope they put him in jail but don't murder him, depending obviously on what he's already done (if anything).

This thread shouldn’t just be on the politics forum it’s probably not on the open forum to stop it being locked or moved into others.
Any mod able to comment why this isn't in the normal forum?

I don't talk politics crap but I like to read and share about what is going on in this situation. Aye it may have some political jibber jabber now and then but surely overall many people who won't even venture into the Politics forum may well read the thread to stay up to date and join in if it was in the normal SMB forum?

Nice of the Russians.

Huh, we have a critical objective. Our soldiers are shit and failed the first time.

Oh, send the Chechens, who probably don't want to be here anyway but for the money but are in fact much better at war than our soldiers that also don't want to be there.

Lovely f***ing nation, that Putinistan.
