Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Propaganda on both sides but I'm not convinced Russia are making as much progress as some suggest
Let them their supply lines won’t keep up different ball game when they are cut off
How is she talking utter bollocks? Janey was replying to a post specifically about accepting refugees that had originally stemmed from the tweet about Polish accepting them that she'd posted.
I’ve replied to her direct, held my hands up you don’t need to hold her hand I’m sure she can manage herself.

Then il hold my hands up and apologise if that’s the cause but it came across as the uk are not doing enough in general when I say we are. The weapons we have supplied have no doubt been a massive help to those on the frontline those fighting for those who are looking for security

Too many people on here care about what side they are on in the Uk rather than what’s going on in Ukraine

I feel the left and right in this thread are still making it about the left and right

And not what is right and wrong.

The countries that are the safest to get to quickly should be the ones that take the people in.

The others should help supply the lines of those fighting. This isn’t Uk or EU it’s nato in an escalating conflict

In an ideal world I would have each and everyone back here right now but that’s not the case.
You could have just stopped at you will hold your hands up to be fair because as far as I recall, despite what I think of them generally, I’ve never commented either way on this thread about the governments overall response (though always happy to be proved wrong)

And if you want to look for the post I was replying to you will see that was exactly the context.

How come your not lauding anything positive the government has done regarding this situation?

It's as if your just waiting for anything negative to spout your bias...

Anyone would think your a paid up member of a political party to throw in your negative views.

We announced sanctions then haven’t implemented them because of lawyers letters to HMG according to Truss y’day. Lawyers letters stop nothing only the courts or Parliament.

My view is that this war has occurred not in a vacuum but as a byproduct of the geopolitics of the last 20 years, the flow of this thread is basically one way in condemnation of Russia, whichever way this topic would be going, I would be trying to drop in nuance and counter points to help people engage in the more interesting elements of the topic. It’s easy to pat each other on the back and enjoy a pile-on, It can be tough when your views are challenged. I’m not trying to piss anybody off, I’m trying to engage myself and others in broader thinking.
Who created the geopolitics of the last 20years....im sure you can try hard and find a reason to excuse Putin. I wont.

No I’m entitled to my opinion and you are entitled to yours which I will always respect doesn’t matter if I agree or disagree or even call it bollocks it’s your opinion. This is a highly emotional situation for all. You have mentioned the post twice which I have held my hands up to that bit.

However the left and right are still using this as political point scoring.

Think people forget the most important thing those in the middle of a war zone.

I'm not holding her hand at all, I'd say the same thing if it was anyone else on here but I see you'd sorted it anyway once I refreshed this thread which is good to hear 👍

:edit: I keep forgetting this thread is in the Politics forum! 🤪

Like I said mate it’s the left vs righr that gets on my tits I shouldn’t have been drawn into it as that’s not usually me but it’s easy to bite too much point scoring.

Ukraine politician on Radio 4 just now reckons Belarus forces are actively fighting with the Russians north of Kyiv because the Russians aren’t able to break through by themselves.

this is the point, battles are won and lost on the ability to keep the logistics on track, so many times in history Defect has been snatched from the jaws of victory because of underestimating the supply lines, time and time again in the second world war for example, German advances petered out due to the scorch and burn policy, retreating allowing the Germans to advance and stretching the lines further and further and when fully stretched hit and harass the supplies, causing problems at the front.

I would have thought Russia of all countries would understand this, but if reports of tanks out of fuel and troops looking for supplies, some serious supply issues, which leads me to believe they cant be airlifted in to the front as the Russian claim of total destruction of the Ukraine air capabilities was rubbish, moving into the cities causes a whole host of other problems, Cold, tried, scared troops lacking supplies aren't going to be an effective army for long, the Russians also have to deal with the possibility that at any moment a Civilian could turn out to be a combatant

Some of these takes demosnstrate why Lee Johnson got sacked, no capacity or attempt to understand the circumstances, nuance or bigger concepts, just a desire to get what you want immediately, no ability to delay gratification. Putin bad, nuke Russia, nothing more to see here.
