Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

It’s a lot more complicated than that.
Think if Ireland was as strategic to both sides as Ukraine is in the ideologies of East and West
It’s really not. You don’t get to roll tanks into sovereign countries and kill a whole bunch of people when there country hasn’t attacked you.

The most effective weapon against an occupying force is the IED
Cheap, easy to make, easy to hide, low risk and extremely effective.
If Russia do take some or all of Ukraine just flood the place with them.
And spend the next 20 years accidentally killing hundreds of innocent people?

There was a twitter thread posted on here earlier where a tank mechanic gave some really interesting takes on how to fight them off in an urban setting, among it all he suggested fake mines were indistinguishable to real ones from the view afforded in a tank; he recommended filling the streets with painted dinner plates. It sounds fanciful me writing it here but when you read the thread it sounded genius.

It's literally meaningless for anyone to say they would do what the Ukrainians are doing right now.

Nobody knows until they're faced with that prospect what they would or wouldn't do in a situation that required something like that of them . Talk about it one way or another is completely worthless and devalues the act itself.
The bloke’s from the USA, say no more.

The Ukrainian people have shown what decent people do in this situation

Does what I type differ if I have a different passport?

You’re the fool on here spouting off about nazis and Edward VIII, so pardon me if I’m not enamored of an empty insult.

Because it says you only care about yourself. Not your nation, flaws and all, and all that society has given to you.

I wouldn’t fight for the bastards who run my country either, but I’d sure as hell defend my nation to the death, notwithstanding said bastards.

To be honest, I find positions like yours pathetic.
Can’t argue with stupid mate

Yeah I saw some of that and there’s a reply or two on here.
I was in a tank regiment and it’s generally hard to spot things like that when you’re driving, trying to spot enemy or landmarks, read a map, talk on the radio and so on.
If you were parked up and saw one half buried you might pay some attention to it, possibly.

I suppose even something as basic as a roadside sign saying "warning mines" may be enough to slow a column down enough to get a decent shot at it

They've shown what they themselves are willing to do, and that's entirely to their credit, and the credit is theirs alone, and nobody should be piggybacking on it. It dosen't f***ing matter what anyone else thinks or says they would do in the same situation, because they aren't, and should be thankful for that more to the point.
