Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

How do Sky news know that we are sending more equipment to Ukraine? They've just said Anti aircraft weapons, anti tank weapons, body armour etc. I thought the Armed Forces minister in parliament said, that none of this would be made public at all.

I still can’t get over how mental this is. When I started the thread in December, I’m not sure I really believed they would invade. Posturing I assumed. Even when it became more and more likely, I never expected this
It seemed like more Russian cock measuring, until they actually went ahead and done it.

You dont have to look any further than a Google of 'Nato countries' , then images, then look at the BBC image in purple and orange that shows NATO expansion since 1997.

Look at the physical position of Belarus and Ukraine. He's already lost alot of ground to NATO and his red line is Belarus and Ukraine.

Ukraine was headed towards NATO and that's a step too far for him. End of complicated theories on why this is happening.
Not saying he's right, he's not, any country have have any alliance they wish. But from his perspective NATO have gone too far and upset the balance.
Why was he banging on about decommunisation in his speech and saying Ukraine wasn't a country? Even now, Russia is talking about liberating people from a genocide in the east, not NATO

Tanks are extremely vulnerable to a well equipped enemy defence.

They also need high quality infantry support.

If the Ukraine forces have enough of those anti tank weapons us and others gave them it could be a bloody nose for Ivan
tanks are most easily killed at a distance by planes

if the pictures are true then you have to assume that the Ukrainian AF is'nt upto the task

this is one of the big differences between Russia invading Ukraine, and Russia attacking a NATO country - US Air Force generals would be licking their lips at the sight of massed tank columns in daylight

With the arming of civilians are the Russian soldiers going to be under orders that everyone and anyone is a 'legitimate' target?

There's going to be so many unnecessary deaths on both sides. I can't believe there's still people posting on here with implied admiration for Putin.

Was thinking this earlier

Imagine being some crack shot Russian soldier and killing some old bloke just protecting his home

I hear you mate. A few days before hand I was chatting to my dad about it, he's ex forces and he didn't think it would get to this at all. It's unbelievable.

Shame a few specialist pilots couldn't sneak in a do a bit damage on behalf of the Ukraine tbh.

they learnt this lesson in Grozny where tanks were destroyed in the streets by fire from high buildings, they pulled out and pulverised the city with heavy artillery of which they have thousands of pieces

I know fuck all about armies and shit , but won't modern warfare be fought with drones and unmanned equipment operated by a glorified x-box gamer in a control room 1000s miles away? And also be fought using computer viruses and communications hacking and the likes ?

This is all getting made out like it's 1940s europe. It's not going to be like that, is it ??

I feel deeply sorry for all the Ukrainians. It must be hard for Zelensky because he knows he'll probably be dead in a few days time.

Absolute top respect and admiration for those Ukrainians, especially civilians, who are taking up arms and facing up to the Russian army. Balls as big as watermelons those gadgies.

Fuck knows what I'd do in that position. I guess once a few start standing up then more and more would follow. Imagine your next door neighbor fleeing the country, being in relative safety and surviving the war whilst you laid down your life.

Must be torturous what they are going through.

Id doubt the blokes of Britain would do it
If someone decided to try and invade Britain, I have absolutely no doubt folk would be lining up in droves to defend it.

I think your totally wrong.

There's video somewhere, anyone who wanted to be armed would receive a javelin (as in rocket launcher) and a machine gun

This definitely on the table?

Seems a sensible resolution.
I just heard that on the news. A neutrality pledge by Ukraine is a great step. If NATO then say no NATO troops or weapons in Ukraine that will possibly go a long way to giving a compromise that could bring peace. BUT apparently Putin wants the De-Nazification of the Ukraine whatever that means in practical terms.
