West Indies Tour 2022

Probably a joint call between Strauss and Root re. Broad and Anderson.

I’d probably go with this XI from the players picked:

Lees
Crawley
Root
Pope
Stokes
Bairstow
Foakes
Woakes
Robinson
Wood
Parkinson

Sink or swim time for Pope. He’s played 20+ tests now, so bump him up the order and tell him to start delivering. Woakes is also lucky with his overseas record.

Bracey and Bohannon should be on this tour.

India usually have 3 and do alright. Australia could have had 5 number 11s and would have won that series easily.
Pick your best 4 bowlers to take 20 wickets.

His fitness isn’t an issue either, there’s a reason why he’s played more test matches than everyone bar Sachin. Robinson could barely run in his second/third spells in Australia

Some would argue India underachieve massively in test cricket considering population and depth of player to pick from

I don't get the calls for Bracey, I know it wasn't many games but he looked a long way off being a test class batsman when he played.

Came in the side as a top order batsman and we decided to give him the gloves and bat him at 7. I’d have took him just as another option at the top of the order - got a 100 for the lions in Australia so has a little form

What Broad is conveniently ignoring is that his predecessor in the England team sufferd in the same way in order for him to gain his England place. He has had a long and lucrative career which will probably qualify him to move into an equally lucrative media career. Move over gracefully,Mr Broad.

Harmison and Hoggard’s powers were far more on the wane so it isn’t the same imo.

not so sure it was either of those 2 he replaced; their careers overlap. Strauss contacted Broad presumably informing him he was omitted for the W. Indies tour but that it wasn't in his remit to say his test career was over. Why can't Broad gracefully accept that,at 35 years, it's reasonable to look for replacements?.

Cos he’s easily in our best 16 and probably in our best 11. We’ve won one test in fourteen and the first priority should be winning some games.

Yes that's one way to look at, the alternate is to look to rebuild. He probably is in the best 16 if not best 11. Mind he been pretty moderate in the last few years.Ultimately though the only way to improve is to throw novices in and hope they'll develop
