“Everyone’s cup final” myth

Some truth in it to a point but football is about winning battles all over the pitch for the right to play. We are shite at the physical side, all of the sides who play down here are 100% used to doing the dirty work to grind out results.
The whole group need to get a set of balls and win the battles, learn to pass 5 yards 95% of the time then you can do as you please on the park.

I haven't seen a team at Hillsborough that actually did that to us this year...sure they might have upped their game, but its psychological not physical.
Ive seen timewasting etc, but not owt that should have resulted in sendings off etc.
The problem with our respective clubs is...I reckon...
The majority of clubs down here bring players who are actually looking forward to playing at the SOL or Hillsborough
The players we have?...frightened to f.ookin' death of doing it

Such a shite boring excuse that gets repeatedly peddled on here. It's a myth as well.

I've never seen Man City or Liverpool fans moaning about Norwich raising their game against them. Maybe we're just not good enough?

Its a bit of both IMO. Teams always look full of beans against us but because we're shit we cant cope

Tell you what I noticed. A team like them 3 year ago would have seen a point as a scalp and played for time. Instead their keeper was rushing goal kicks late on. Basically everyone sees us as beatable now, with good reason.

Agree for the most part. But what I’m saying is there’s teams who have/are sitting on or near the bottom of the league, 3/4 of the way through the season now. Who’ve not won in weeks or months. Then you watch the sheer effort and commitment of them against us and you have to wonder why they are where they are if they’re playing like that every week. And if they’re not, then why is it they suddenly lift themselves against us?
Or we’ve signed shit players thanks to a recruitment team that can’t identify players not arrogant enough to think they have to play well to win?

But aye it’s definitely other teams to blame for us being shit.

Christ the excuses on here.

It’s not a myth. Teams undoubtedly raise their game against us because they are desperate to beat Sunderland. Every shit team that beats us usually loses and it gets hammered the game after because they revert to being shit but with added fatigue from trying their hardest to beat us. It’s not even up for debate tbh.
We had our most comfortable win all season today after beating you on Tuesday, so that’s not always the case.

Never bought into this. However it’s apparent there’s teams in this league who look at their fixture against us as their cup final and raise their game for that one match. Cheltenham and Wimbledon this week alone. I appreciate we’ve been poor and it’s up to us to be putting teams like that away if we’re serious about getting out of this league. There’s not a mission however they should be where they are going on the work rate, commitment and effort when up against us.
Wimbledon were absolutely shite. They, and their crowd, didn't raise their game at all. We were just equally shite. It was a really poor game and reflected the form table.

It’s not an excuse. It’s just a fact we are an occasion for a lot of teams. Sometimes I watch the streams or listen to the commentary from their end and you wanna hear the way they go on if they score/win man.

Or the flip side of that is we lower our game against every opponent so they can beat us easily despite losing to 'worse' teams than us.

We've lurched from one disaster to another over the last .. i can't even say few years. we've just been a disaster
