You're taking that 100% at face value and completely missing that he could a) have meant when he was a player in the dressing room b) be playing up to his media persona c) being deliberately provacative

I'm not expecting him to come in and start swinging for Hoffman in reality

I don't think we need a tactician as much as we need a clear leader to motivate them and stop their heads from dropping so easily.
Clear leader and motivator certainly but we need some serious tactical nous too, someone who sees what the opposition are doing in the game and dealing with it, having plans for when the 11 we start with aren't working or are tactically outwitted. Johnson constantly had one plan and no answers when we went behind, didn't address defensive dithering and that immediate slump after half time

Apparently there are two issues and money is not an issue. The main one seems to be around what a longer contract means in terms of where Keane will Live. The current regime have stated quite explicitly to existing and potential players that if you are a Sunderland player you must buy into the club and move lock stock and barrel into the area. This was a bone of contention with Grigg and one transfer fell through in the summer as a transfer target wanted to commute from a distance. KLD and KS have tried to model this approach. KLD was at Cheltenham - he’ll be at Eppleton a few days later - he‘s always around the club - rather than Monaco! Short was more remote and it led to problems. The management team have made a big point of this principle within the club and feel a head coach who lives in the NW would dilute this approach and cause unrest in the playing group.

Keane is settled in the NW and wants a long contract - 3 years plus - before he would consider moving to NE. This was the position on Monday - not sure how it has progressed. Negotiations will hopefully lead to a workable compromise.
IIRC he had a rental place in Durham he used during week when needed as a base for training/matches/whatever else then commuted back home when he wanted. That seemed to work no bother at all until Short opened his trap.

Keane's kids are fully grown up now too.

Stevie Wonder could have seen what was inevitable in the second half vs Cheltenham

I don’t want Dodds & the others in charge of another game man.
People need to stop abusing Dodds and Proctor man. The delay meant they were forced into something out of their depth and remit. They improved the last game making better decisions than the one before but too big a learning curve. Let’s give them some respect . They need our backing. (But I agree I don’t either)

even if someone is announced today, will they get a training session in today and tomorrow before travelling to wimbledon in less than 48 hours from now?

thats if they get announced today. more than likely, its too late for any new manager to have any effect on what happens on saturday now.

even though AFC wimbledon haven't won a game since december 7th, you can only see it going one way
.

I heard from a very good source in Manchester that Keane said to Short “ I’ll move to Sunderland when you move to Sunderland”. Short hit the roof!

Would surely be getting tomorrow in at least if announced today.

I'd like to think Keane would already have an idea in his head of his (provisional) ideal starting XI anyway having watched the ****shows of the last 2 games - assuming his head isn't fully consumed with contract stuff.

LJ remember was announced on the morning of his first game.

To be a fly on the wall there would have been fantastic.

That’s the kiss of death for us now Tunstall mate! It’s a commentators curse everytime Nick Barnes says these stats before our games 😡

I never thought money was an issue for Keano when he expressed an interest in doing the job. He knows that when you take up a job in League One you can't expect to get Premier League wages simply because of the financial state all of the Clubs are in. There's no point in asking for money that people don't have. I think that his main interest is getting back in to football management and disproving his critics.

Agreed, they don’t deserve abuse. But they shouldn’t be in the dugout.

Might go against the general mood, but surely it’s about time the club got a managerial appointment right.

If that process takes a couple of weeks, or longer, but if it means we can start a proper rebuild so be it.

It’s likely we’ve got another season in league 1. Get it right now with the right coaching team - point the ship in the right direction now and we have the capability to smash promotion next season and be ready to compete in the championship. Hopefully under Roy Keane (but if not Alex Neil) we can finally sort this mess out.

The goalposts have moved after the last 10 days or so, abandon the quick fix and plan for the long term. IMO.

He should have had a short list of replacements ready to go as soon as a decision was made to sack LJ.

He also should have had the balls to step into the dug out for the interim games until a replacement is put into post when it became apparent Dodds wasn't suited.

It's like in business when you remove a member of management or they put in their notice, normally you ask your most promising, or next in line to take over in the short term. You then support them and step in if they are not up to the task.
Exactly,, however I'm not quite sure that he would have been anymore successful. They didn't need some coach with 50+ coaching badges to his name, they needed someone one like Kevin Ball for 2 games who could lift them and motivate them, get them up for the games, at the end of the day we didn't need a master technician to win those 2 games just a bit of self belief
