West Indies Tour 2022

Was about to say it's the only thing that makes sense is Root at 3
Joe needs to man up and lead from the front more.

I'd have him open the batting with Lees and Crawley at three. However good he is at #4, he's also the best opener we have, with 180 in that slot. The higher he bats, the less new ball the young kids will face.

I've solved it lads
Lees
Crawley
Bairstow
Root
Stokes
Lawrence
Foakes
Woakes
Wood
Robinson
Leach
It makes no sense at all

Nope. Strauss has confirmed they're dropped and said their inclusion in the summer is down to the new guys coming in...
Mental given Anderson went at under 2 an over and both he and Broad averaged around 25 in the Ashes

Not convinced they picked the best team from players available personally.
Yeah agree, but general point still stands that we short on depth

Been saying that for years almost giving @The Rat a heart attack at times with him quoting his record at 4 time and time again.

With that squad should not be throwing in untried player at 3 when you have you your one world class batsman further down

Sounds like it is largely Root’s decision. Once again the bowlers pay for the batsman’s ineptitude.

I’m a big Strauss fan but this feels like a mistake. It’s a brave call I suppose and there has to come a point where we move on from them - if Root is staying as captain, for it to be truly his team.

I agree with Agnew’s point that we know what they can do, but surely it’s just a case of play your best team. There’s no way Overton, Robinson or Woakes offer more.

Am forward to seeing what Mahmood can do, although the ODIs took a bit of the shine off that.
Can’t wait to watch Craig Overton dobbing it down on a length at 80mph.
Some lovely right-arm off-spin from Robinson to look forward to as well.

The one defence of the selection of some of these failing batsmen is that the West Indies are absolutely shite (borderline worrying I know) so it could be a confidence builder for the likes of Pope to establish themselves in the test team. If they fail here then they will 100% be out of the team come the summer though.

Their bowling attack is canny and the pitches aren’t roads. Recent history suggests we don’t do that well there

As I say to him every time he raises it, Joe's glorious average at 4 isn't worth a shiny shite if the players above him are averaging 25 because they can't handle the new ball.

Always play their best cricket against us. Far better England sides than this have struggled there
