Our best chance of rescuing this season is to appoint (even short term) a manager capable, almost by the very force of his personality, to give the place such a boost it almost propels the club forwards.

Once we gain momentum we’ve a decent chance in the playoffs.

Keane seems to be that option

I agree Keane would be the number one choice. However, if we get in the play offs I would have had no faith in JOhnson and would look at McCann as someone with more bite to get us through.

In the Speakman interview yesterday he said that they it wasn't just the interviewee (ie Keane etc) but they also had to talk to their lawyers and agents.

We also have people quoting the 'Rooney rule' and needing to demonstrate we shortlisted and interviewed a BAME candidate.

Watford appointed Hodgson in a day or so after Ranieri was fired. Did they credibly comply with the 'Rooney rule' ?
Did they get around it by saying Hodgson was a temporary appointment while they go through 'due process' for the permanent appointment?.

Many on here talking as if Keane is the only answer and that Speakman and KLD are boxed into a corner that any other appointment is an anti-climax and whoever it is will have negativity from day one and never be given a fair chance.

I seem to be in a minority to want to let KLD do it properly and what ever the outcome (Keane or another) this will be their man for their plan.

If they don't do it properly they have effectively abandoned their own structure & approach. Keane might be the right man for the job (his emotional appeal is in no doubt) but if there's a better candidate (I can't think who, but there again, I haven't been party to any of the interviews) then so be it. Either way, I think it's time to make the decision (if it hasn't already been made) & appoint the chosen head coach without delay.

I also think @3stripes has a point, although if Keane were to be appointed, the less robust characters might be naturally thinned out over time (leaving for pastures new) leaving behind the more robust who would then (presumably) be bolstered by further squad additions in the summer, irrespective of which league we happen to be in next season. As I've posted before, while I generally favour the data-driven approach, neither data nor traditional interview can determine character & psychological robustness. These qualities only tend to emerge (or not) when the chips are down (as they are now!).

The problem is our demand for instant success. I'm not sure McCann would provide the instant "fire in the belly"that Roy undoubtedly would. He'd certainly be my second choice.

He needs something to work with. I’ve seen a lot down the pages of this thread that he’d boot them up the arse, give them the hair dryer, light a fire under them, tell them a few home truths etc etc. Thing is, if you’re going to challenge a player to prove you wrong, then that player needs to have a bit of pride, self respect, backbone, fight. Thing there is I didn’t see any of that yesterday, nor did I see it against Bolton or in any of the other games in which we got pumped. My opinion based on this is that we have a team with a lot of gutless cowards in it who shit themselves every time they are up against it. Good luck to Keane or indeed any other manager trying to fix that.

This is probably closer to the truth than some of the theories on here where they are pissing their knickers.
 
I do think once this games done he will come up here and it will be announced later on tonight, we like a Sunday night announcement.
