"Scouring LinkedIn" no doubt. One week after the sacking and he's 'drawing up a shortlist'. It's such an unnecessary interview. They are clearly negotiating with Keane. Why say that?
In an ideal world both are what I want. The right man and a popular choice.I'd personally prefer that he appoints the best person for the job over the "fans-favourite".

Is speakman the right man? He's left us too short at centre back and appointed Johnson who once again, failed to get the club up. The jury should be out on him, never mind the managers.Agreed mate but unfortunately at the level we're at, I just don't think that exists. Well it doesn't looking at the short-list of Managers.
If Speakman and the Club don't think Keane is the right man then I hope they don't bow down to fan pressure (I don't think they will to be honest).
I think and I agree with you the club needs to be brave and do what is right. If they feel that is not Keane, I don’t think they should’ve been fawning over him all week.Agreed mate but unfortunately at the level we're at, I just don't think that exists. The same seemed to happen last season.I wouldn't be surprised if the loss of form is down to Speakman and the players being told who's getting a contract at the end of the season and who's not. A bit speculative but it's an open secret now that Gooch is finished at safc.
I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but I'm still shocked by the Flanagan situation - the sudden loss of form, a move that looks very poor on paper, the assertion that he needed to secure his long term future, the lack of replacement etc.
I can only deduce that something has soured very quickly. Some won't agree but Flanagan had every chance of being at the club in the championship next year.
I'm no fan of Johnson but its like half of those responsible are carrying 100% of the blame, isn't it?Is speakman the right man? He's left us too short at centre back and appointed Johnson who once again, failed to get the club up. The jury should be out on him, never mind the managers.
A big part of our philosophy is being weak as piss losers, that part doesn't gel with Keane. To me, people saying Keane doesn’t suit our ‘philosophy’ are wrong. I remember the marked difference when Keane took over, everyone chasing the ball down, scoring loads of last minute winners. Speakman’s said he wants the teams to match the people of the city, hard working etc. People up here love and relate to Keane unlike LJ who always seemed a bit of a mismatch.
This has always been my problem with the sporting director / director of football role. What are they judged on? In theory it seems a nice, comfy job. It'll be well paid, you've got more power than the head coach (since you have a fairly large role in hiring and firing them), and if things turn to shit you don't lose your job because it's important to stick to the philosophy so it's the coach who goes. And the idea of a philosophy is fine, but how do you judge if the bloke in that position is capable of delivering it? Johnson was blatantly his man, and he failed. So for me he's got to start getting things right quickly, and if they end up f***ing about while Rome burns it'll be another major misstep. If the person they ultimately choose to come in fails as well, then at that time speakman should leave the club alongside themIf he had anything about him, he should surely have taken control of the side yesterday as an interim measure? After all he is responsible for all footballing matters at the club at all levels?
Instead, we left it to the 'Head of Individual Player Development', who works on an individual basis with U18s and U23s. He has only ever worked with Academy players. He worked his way up from coaching with 'pre-Academy' players. What the fuck would he know about managing a senior team in a crucial promotion clash in front of 40,000?
The problem is that the Sporting Director role appeals to people who want to hide, and want to pass responsibility for failure to others. It's a cushy number for people who want to stay in one place, without accountability, bollocksing on about 'philosophy', and handling easy questions from club media.
No idea what value Speakman brings to the club tbh. It's a job he has never done before, and having met Lee Johnson and decided he was a good fit for SAFC, he now seems to think that we need Roy Keane, the polar opposite. Or we might need Grant McCann instead.
Philosophy my arse.
He said himself we couldn’t buy fish in the North Sea we had to take anyone who would be willing to come basically because of the wage structure and been up northNo wonder this club goes from disaster to disaster.
On Monday Speakman had played a blinder apart from the CB situation going from the general consensus. I've seen people blame Speakman for letting Younger go. If he was that reliable why wasn't he playing RB ahead of Winchester and Gooch??? Johnson didn't fancy him and was happy to let him leave to further his development.
We've been without a manager for 6 days! I confident it will be sorted in the next day or two.
As for Keane, I personally can't see him being a success based on the current setup. He spent a fair whack when he was with us the last time. Some of his buys were good, and others were crap. He then worked on a budget at Ipswich and was found wanting.
All the hype about him is from journalista and Sky. Don't blame the club if it doesn't happen.
Absolutely it did. And the fact that something like 8 of our starting 11 in the playoff semi final almost certainly knew they were playing their last game for the club, probably had a bearing on the outcome. The same seemed to happen last season.
